Cosplaying Laevatain at Hypergryph Carnival this time, my strongest impression was just how incredibly layered this outfit is—though it genuinely tested my physical stamina. To faithfully recreate the texture and drape of the black-and-red leather from the character illustration, I consulted with the tailor countless times. In particular, the flame-like angular edges of the skirt required specialized structural stiffeners so they would stay sharp and rigid while moving around. The split second I put on the full ensemble and set the wig, that signature commanding aura of Surtr surfaced immediately, followed right away by the inescapable wave of heat inside the carnival venue.
The wig had been styled in advance, its high-saturation crimson proving exceptionally eye-catching under the exhibition hall lighting. To align with the character's disposition, I repeatedly fine-tuned the placement of the angular horn accessories on either side of the head, ensuring they wouldn't look awkward during dynamic snapshots with wide body movements. For makeup, the focus was placed on enhancing the purple-blue contacts and surrounding eye makeup effects, accompanied by shimmering glitter dabbed across the face so that her sharp, piercing presence would hold up even under the venue's complex multi-source lighting.
The greatsword prop was the centerpiece of this shoot. The sword is of substantial proportions with its weight distribution leaning forward, so holding and maneuvering it for extended periods put noticeable strain on the hands. Especially when posing with one knee planted on a boulder or half-crouching while pointing the blade forward, maintaining balance while conveying unshakeable tension meant locking down my waist and core continuously. After wrapping a few sets of poses, I definitely felt the burn of muscle soreness. Yet the metallic finish and weathered battle scarring on the greatsword photographed brilliantly; as long as my center of gravity was dialed in, it served as the visual anchor of the frame, giving the entire composition immense impact.
There were many dedicated photographers on site, collaborating together across the set to find lighting angles that simulated flames and apocalyptic ruins. To match this dystopian atmosphere, I deliberately dropped my center of gravity or used my fingertips to guide line-of-sight toward the lens. Laevatain's personality possesses a calm yet fiercely destructive edge; body language cannot rely on simple static posing—the focus of the eyes and the deliberate stillness of each posture are paramount. Standing in place to calibrate how to apply physical tension, it felt like more than just donning a costume; it felt like channeling her internal logic through these garments and props.
It was truly delightful meeting so many fellow fans who love Arknights: Endfield at Hypergryph Carnival. Exchanging lore details and sharing photoshoot insights with everyone on site was an immensely rewarding experience. I am very satisfied with this set of photos; both the synergy with the scene and the capture of the character's demeanor reached our envisioned goals. Meticulous preparation always yields rewarding feedback, and I hope this series brimming with intensity and tactile texture fully conveys Laevatain's unique aura to everyone.
