All the convention hall photos of Jade are finally fully retouched! To pull off this look, substantial effort was invested in wardrobe and props during pre-production. The blue-and-black wide-brimmed hat serves as the visual centerpiece of the ensemble; because the leather jacket tends to catch specular glare under venue overhead lights, I coordinated with the photographer to rely predominantly on side-rim lighting to sculpt garment contours, avoiding direct frontal flash that might cause blown-out hotspots. Layering the black bandeau top beneath the pleated skirt unified the tonal palette, while the fishnet stockings and skull-accented thigh garter injected an extra dose of rebellious, edgy flair.
Pedestrian traffic at the expo floor was heavy that day, making the background undeniably cluttered. To channel complete visual focus onto the character, the photographer wielded a Sony A7M4 paired with a Tamron 35-100mm zoom lens. The spatial compression of the telephoto end melted away background crowds into creamy bokeh, allowing the subject to pop sharply with wide apertures. Convention lighting is notoriously complex: while the circular ceiling downlights looked sleek, direct beams on the face risk creating harsh, unflattering facial shadows. I brought along a compact reflector board, bouncing subtle warm fill light onto the lower body during the kneeling pose in Photo 2 to keep skin tones radiant and translucent.
For pose choreography, the standing stance in Photo 1 deliberately shifted my weight onto one leg while crossing the other slightly forward—a posture that not only elongates leg lines, but also commands visual presence. Resting my right hand along the hat brim while curling my left arm before my chest, paired with a direct gaze into the lens, brought forth Jade's mischievous yet confident essence. For Photo 2, I transitioned into a kneeling pose with both knees on the floor, resting the hat beside me. This posture was surprisingly demanding on core stamina: keeping the torso upright required continuous abdominal engagement to prevent slouching. Kneeling closed down camera distance, which, combined with a low shooting angle, amplified perspective depth while highlighting garment craftsmanship and silhouette curves. In truth, wearing this leather outfit across the convention floor grew quite stuffy over time, so quick retreats to air-conditioned rest spots for makeup touch-ups between takes were essential.
I personally adore the tactile quality achieved in this set. The hall's cool gray floor tiles and industrial ceiling structures resonated naturally with the outfit's sharp, techwear-infused edge. In post-production color grading, the photographer darkened background exposure to accentuate the vivid contrast between my silver-white hair and blue contact lenses, dialing up visual impact. The greatest thrill of convention floor photography lies in capturing the character's most vibrant moments amidst an authentic expo environment. Every poise adjustment before the lens and every shutter click synchronized with the photographer represents a shared effort to elevate a 2D illustration into three-dimensional life. This Jade styling holds many nuances left to explore, and I look forward to revisiting it under even more refined lighting in the future.
