The convention photos from the July 31st Hypergryph Carnival have finally been partially retouched! Shooting inside the exhibition hall presented quite a challenge: stage spotlights and overhead booth lights intersected into an extremely chaotic lighting environment, meaning straight-out-of-camera exposures often suffered from uneven highlights and shadows. Fortunately, after working closely with the photographers on color grading and blemish cleanup, we managed to faithfully restore most of everyone's stunning looks. The schedule was tight, and the entire day was practically spent rushing between various exhibition booths. From the moment we entered in the morning, the sheer enthusiasm of the fans was palpable—navigating the bustling crowds to find clean framing angles and dodge foot traffic required seizing every split second.
Preparing the costumes and props was far more intricate than most would imagine. To do full justice to each character's canonical design, everyone invested tremendous dedication into styling wigs, refining makeup, and perfecting wardrobe layers. Many friends wore complex metallic helmets and hoisted oversized weapon props; while these components look breathtaking on camera, their physical heft is no joke, demanding substantial core strength every time a pose was struck. Combined with characters requiring layered long dresses and Stockings, trekking across the convention halls all day was a genuine test of endurance. Yet the moment everyone faced the lens, they snapped into their most radiant, charismatic states. Seeing fellow cosplayers repeatedly calibrate their stances and angles to nail that perfect frame was truly inspiring.
Snapping group shots with familiar friends was a highlight; although the process felt rushed due to spatial constraints, the on-site camaraderie was incredible. Between takes, we exchanged insights on post-color grading, garment care, and prop maintenance. A convention is not just a showcase of personal passion, but a precious opportunity for offline community connection. Given the time constraints, we couldn't photograph every single accessory and styling detail brought along, leaving a few regrets to be redeemed next time. Reviewing these photos now brings back the rush and excitement of that day, leaving me with a deep sense of fulfillment. Breathing tangible reality into beloved characters and immortalizing these vibrant moments makes all the exhausting prep entirely worthwhile. Moving forward, I will continue polishing wardrobe and props to deliver even sharper states and higher-caliber work at future events, and I eagerly anticipate more opportunities to create and connect with friends.
