This session of convention photos features Lan Yan from Genshin Impact. Lan Yan's costume design is very unique. The outer garment is a light cyan halter-style short skirt with many exquisite silver metal decorations. Hanging in front of the chest is a string of long tassels that sway when walking, requiring special attention to prevent the tassels from tangling. The design on the arms is detachable wide sleeve covers, with complex silver hollow patterns on the edges like scales, dangling with many silver metal pieces and small bells; when wearing them, they need to be fixed to the inner clothes with safety pins to prevent slipping. Below the skirt hem are red and blue geometric patterns, and the edge is also inlaid with metal chains and teardrop-shaped pendants. The shoes feature black straps and thick soles, with red straps and silver tassels around the ankles, giving the overall costume a very strong sense of layering.
To restore the character's hairstyle, I wore a deep blue long wig with cyan highlights. The silver crown on top of the head and the silver chain between the eyebrows are parts that need focused fixation. Because there are many people at the convention site and large movements can easily loosen them, many bobby pins were used. Purple contact lenses were used for the eye makeup, matching eyeshadow and eyeliner to make the gaze look more vivid.
The props in hand are two large ring-shaped weapons, looking like double-ring blades. These weapons are solidly crafted and have a significant weight in hand. The outer circle is silver, the inner circle is cyan, with some metal rivets on them. When posing, I need to constantly pay attention to wrist strength to ensure I can steadily hold them up in front of the camera.
The shooting location was a large exhibition hall. The top of the hall is high metal trusses with many circular overhead lights. Natural light filters in from the nearby windows, mixing with the photographer's fill lights to form reflections on the costume's metal accessories and the weapon's silver paint surface, creating an excellent texture.
The focus of this styling's shooting lies in showcasing body lines and costume details. To match different compositions, I tried standing, sitting on a folding ladder, and a dynamic pose with one leg lifted. When sitting on the ladder, to showcase the skirt's tailoring and leg lines, it was necessary to find the center of gravity to keep the body in a natural and relaxed state while also managing the heavy props in hand. The standing leg-lift action tests core strength, but the resulting photo effect is full of tension.
Because it is a convention photo, the time is relatively tight, requiring a quick transition into character. Regarding action design, I communicated with the photographer for a long time. We tried a domineering pose holding weapons from the front, as well as an agile look turning back from the side. To showcase Lan Yan's ethereal yet somewhat cold temperament in the game, the guidance of the gaze is very important. The camera shutter speed needs to be set relatively high to capture the moment when the skirt hem floats up as I wave the weapon or walk. The costume material is a slightly reflective fabric, so it presents different colors under the lighting, which is very special. The environment at the convention site is relatively chaotic, with many tents of other booths and photography equipment in the background, so we tried to use a large aperture and telephoto lens during shooting to blur the background and highlight the main subject. Although the post-processing space for convention photos cannot compare to studio shoots, the venue's built-in industrial style background actually adds a sense of realism. The entire shooting process was very smooth, and the tailoring of this costume and the texture of the props were well presented in front of the camera.
