For this Halloween creative concept, we locked in a vintage dark aesthetic, setting the shoot in a chamber brimming with antique props. The visual dichotomy of black-and-white twin archetypes was something I had long envisioned exploring, prompting me to portray both Lebel and Janus.
First, regarding the black ensemble: the core of this look is anchored by the leather corset and lace fishnet stockings (Stockings). To heighten the aura of mystery, I donned black-rimmed glasses and a wide-brimmed hat adorned with blue-and-black floral ornaments. The bodice features a cinched corset cut paired with a miniskirt accented by metallic chains and cross-pumpkin pendants. To prevent the dark styling from feeling overly dense, I chose a pair of black fishnet stockings featuring broad open-weave cutouts along the legs, grounded by black lace-up combat boots. To project Lebel's signature cool, aloof, and subtly calculating demeanor before the lens, I deepened facial contouring, particularly around the eye makeup. During takes, pinkish-purple and blue ambient lights served as the primary illumination to cultivate a moody gothic atmosphere. The prop team meticulously appointed the set with a vintage grandfather clock, white lace tablecloths, lanterns, antique picture frames, and crimson roses in the corner—details that infused the frame with rich narrative depth. Leaning along the edge of the table flatteringly accentuated bodily curves while anchoring a stable triangular composition.
Next came the second styling: the white-haired Janus look. The material palette here formed a fierce contrast with the black counterpart, utilizing high-gloss vinyl and patent textiles trimmed with white lace borders and semi-translucent gossamer—channeling both Halloween playfulness and a whisper of enigmatic allure. For hair, I opted for twin tails embellished with black bowknots and bat-wing barrettes, accessorized with a metal-ringed choker. The lower half was paired with sheer thigh-high stockings accented by black bow ties; kneeling on the rug elegantly displayed the tiered layers of the garment. The lighting setup for this sequence shifted to a cool-blue dominant key, which, juxtaposed with the photo collage on the backdrop wall and the adjacent jack-o'-lantern, yielded a totally distinct texture.
While contrasting drastically in materials and emotional tone, the two garments engaged in a fascinating thematic dialogue within the shared space. The greatest technical challenge during the shoot lay in preventing the high-gloss vinyl from blowing out with specular glare under lights while preserving the crisp, legible weave of the stockings, requiring immense care during upfront lighting calibration and post-production color grading. The entire set dressing and wardrobe coordination were engineered to articulate Halloween's distinct blend of eerie and enchanting charms.
Preparing a shoot anchored around a specific festive theme always demands extensive time to scout venues, curate props, and manually alter wardrobe details. Yet beholding the finished captures made every ounce of preparation deeply rewarding. I sincerely hope this black-and-white twin aesthetic brings a refreshing visual experience to everyone.
