[Raiden Mei cosplay] Honkai Impact 3rd: Zhen X Crescent Dawn Convention Live Shoot Share

Shooting Raiden Mei's Zhen X Crescent Dawn attire this time was an exceptionally distinct experience. Right from the initial fitting, the design of this coordinate provided enormous creative latitude. The color scheme is dominated by navy blue, crisp white, and gold; the sweeping outer robe features a dramatic high slit along the skirt hem, layered over over-the-knee black leather boots. To authentically convey the character's signature cool, imposing presence, I intentionally sharpened my facial contouring and wore crimson cosmetic contacts to closely mirror the canonical illustrations.

Our shooting location was an industrial-styled indoor photography studio. The exposed metal ductwork and raw gray concrete flooring created a wonderfully compelling aesthetic collision. While the backdrop projected sharp modernist grit, the character was draped in flowing fantasy fabrics while brandishing a distinctively sculpted polearm weapon—this sharp stylistic contrast translated brilliantly before the lens. To channel dynamic tension through movement, I repeatedly rehearsed multiple weapon-handling stances prior to shooting. Because the polearm carried noticeable heft, holding mid-air leaps and fluid swings with rock-solid stability required intense core activation to control body equilibrium. The subtle woven damask patterns on the robe and the metallic sheen of the golden waist accents revealed rich dimensional depth under studio key lights.

Among the entire set, my favorite capture is the suspended high-leg lift frozen mid-air. This posture demanded not only anchoring the long polearm firmly in hand, but also precisely dictating the billow and trajectory of the skirt. Capturing the ideal sweeping arc of the robe and cape unfurling through the air took countless takes—sometimes the fabric fell at the wrong angle, other times the gaze lacked razor-sharp intensity. Fortunately, the finalized frame turned out stunning: the deep navy hem appears to snap fiercely in the wind, while the tone of the leg muscles and the rich texture of the black leather boots were captured to perfection. The pairing of the white bandeau with the golden waist adornments added sculpted dimension under the lighting, accentuating bodily proportions beautifully.

Post-production visual effects were a vital pillar for this series. When consulting with our VFX artist, I specifically emphasized that the tip of the polearm needed to emit a subtle cyan-blue glow while scattering ambient energy particles across the immediate periphery. Streaks of flowing golden flame were introduced across the background to contrast with the cold blue highlights, amplifying the surreal, high-stakes atmosphere. Tactile textile nuances—such as specular glints across the gilded metalwork and highlights along the leather boots—were carefully tuned to make the textures pop.

This shoot was undeniably grueling, as holding suspended postures while maintaining composed facial micro-expressions required tremendous physical stamina. To ensure my gaze conveyed piercing sharpness, I actively calibrated my mindset beforehand, immersing myself in the character's calm yet indomitable headspace. Because the garments and props were quite heavy, wrapping each sequence meant taking a moment to catch my breath before continuing. Yet reviewing the finalized selects made every round of posture adjustments and lighting tweaks wholly worthwhile.

The photographer also provided invaluable framing direction. To maximize the visual elongation of the legs, we leaned heavily into low-angle upward tilts. Occasionally, finding the ideal perimeter composition required squeezing into tight studio angles. This production granted me a deeper appreciation of this design—it is not merely visual splendor, but a conduit for the character's innate strength. Overall, it was a thoroughly delightful cosplay collaboration where everyone poured tremendous passion into wardrobe, props, makeup, and post-production to deliver the best possible outcome.
