Arriving at the beach location early in the morning on the day of the shoot, the sun had already risen to a higher angle, and standing on the sand, I could feel intense spots of light falling on my white neckerchief. Under the strong outdoor sunlight, this blue-and-white uniform for Seele Vollerei cosplay didn't absorb heat like darker clothes usually do; instead, the off-the-shoulder white design kept my upper body feeling remarkably fresh. As the sea breeze blew, the white stitching on the skirt hem, the connecting metal chains, and the texture of the white tights cosplay styling all revealed distinct layers due to light refraction. To recreate the character's pure essence, we specifically selected a beach area with fine sand where a thin layer of water remained after low tide. This allowed us to clearly capture my ankles soaked in seawater while utilizing reflections on the water's surface to make the images more dynamic.

Because beach weather in August changes rapidly, the time spent on this beach location shoot was stretched quite long. From the high-contrast style of the bright, splash-filled first photo to the soft, near-dusk tones of the second set, we were constantly waiting for suitable natural lighting. In the second picture, I chose to stand where the waves had just receded, with water just covering the edges of my shoes. At this moment, the soaked white tights contrasted with the damp sand, while the low-key, dark environment made the blue vest and purple skirt lining stand out with even richer texture. During a break in the shoot, a half-body close-up taken by the photographer accurately reflected makeup details, such as the transition near the neckerchief and collarbones. Thanks to thorough sun protection and touch-ups, the makeup showed no cakeyness or excessive glare under outdoor natural light.

In fact, when shooting this look by the sea, the most important detail to manage was the fluttering angle of the skirt. The skirt itself isn't too long, but it has a two-layer structure: an outer dark navy/black pleated layer and an inner pale purple lining, along with a naturally dangling metal chain. When the sea breeze swept in, if my stance was off, wind resistance could easily tangle the chain in the folds of the skirt. Thus, I maintained a subtle side profile or slightly lifted the skirt hem while posing, which not only added movement to the frame but also prevented accessories from getting messy in nature. To express the character's melancholic and serene traits, we captured the overcast light in Photo 3. By then, the sky had darkened with low clouds, and the sea and sand lost their sharp color contrast; my gaze shifted away from the camera toward the hazy, grey horizon. In close-up shots, the wig appeared slightly wind-ruffled by the humid sea breeze, but this subtle untidiness fit the character's mood perfectly in that atmosphere.

Beyond on-site candid snapshots, post-processing color grading for these photos was also quite meticulous. For the bright Photo 1, I preserved highlight details to give the neckerchief and shirt a tangible fabric feel. For overcast Photo 3, I deliberately enhanced the grey values in the shadow areas without forcibly brightening them, as lower contrast better highlighted the character's temperament. Though seawater wet the white tights and skirt hem, requiring post-production adjustments on reflections in soaked areas, we overall strived to preserve the authentic design of the uniform. The off-the-shoulder design paired with the white choker on the neck are iconic elements of her design. In a beach setting, the blue-and-white palette harmonized beautifully with the blue sky and greyish-white sand, requiring no artificial fantasy effects, as the interplay of warm and cool natural light served as the best natural filter.

This shoot was not merely a record for the physical photobook released at the C108 book fair; more importantly, I wanted to capture the emotional shifts across different times of day at the seaside on film. From the dazzling morning sun to the soft twilight glow, and into the cool melancholy of an overcast day, every photo conveys the character's psychological state under varying environments. Since Seele Vollerei's character personality intrinsically holds contrasts, the shifting weather at the beach location perfectly reflected these inner layers. The physical photobook layout also adopted this segmented scene arrangement, offering readers a sense of artistic breathing room rather than a simple photography display. The paper chosen for the book has a fine, granular texture that avoids excessive glare, perfectly recreating the beach texture and subtle sheer quality of the white tights from the original raw photos. I hope everyone who gets a copy can feel the salty sea breeze brushing past as they turn the pages.
