Today, I completed the photoshoot for Remilia cosplay and Flandre Scarlet Cosplay from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil at Miku Studio. This styling primarily centered on a dark vintage aesthetic; to give the characters more dimension, the outfits incorporated many intricate lace and ruffle elements. Remilia's pink-and-red color-blocked dress is extraordinarily gorgeous, and paired with White stockings and red-soled platform shoes, it perfectly accentuated the ambiance of a vintage afternoon tea scene under the intense spotlights.
To capture the young mistress's proud and enigmatic poise, I needed to exert fine control over my demeanor before the lens. Sitting on the carved antique chair, I kept my posture as upright as possible, turning my head sideways to gaze into the camera or posing with that slender prop to infuse the motion with theatrical flair. Even though it was a still photo, I still had to imagine those lovely desserts right in front of me. Once posed, combined with the low-key side lighting sculpted in the studio, the skirt hem and leg lines became remarkably distinct.
We also shot the styling for her younger sister, Flandre Scarlet Cosplay, with blonde hair and a red-and-white dress, clutching a teddy bear in hand while emphasizing pure buoyancy and innocence in her poses. Throughout the shoot, we swapped between several different props—such as exquisite teaware on trays and a golden birdcage—which greatly enhanced the fairy-tale quality of the frames.
The red velvet drapery in the studio was the soul of this set; paired with the vintage carved sofa and furs on the floor, the aristocratic ambiance of the space emerged instantly. Coordinating with the photographer's focal length and composition adjustments, while the lighting artist tuned the intensity of warm light sources in real time, allowed us to achieve this richly layered lighting effect. The sleeves of this outfit were slightly cumbersome to manage, but they genuinely added flair from specific angles. Furthermore, to bring out a more captivating texture, we paid special attention during shooting to the light reflection on the leg White stockings and the natural flow of the skirt pleats.
Having been a fan of the Touhou Project series for quite some time, I finally had the opportunity to capture the essence of the two sisters in a Scarlet Devil Mansion-themed studio. The shooting process demanded physical exertion to continuously adjust postures, as well as emotional immersion to experience the characters' backstory—making it a deeply fulfilling experience. Overall, this photo set faithfully captures the charm of these classic characters, and I absolutely adore the artistic tension created by the combination of props and backdrops.
