[Kiryuu Kikyou cosplay] Daily Cat Moments of A Riot of Flowers and Hyakkiyako

This set of finished Kiryuu Kikyou cosplay photos is finally organized! Preparations spanned over half a month from selecting the character to the actual shoot. This character from Blue Archive possesses a tranquil yet subtly enigmatic aura. The wardrobe is a modified sailor uniform paired with a wide-sleeved blue haori overcoat, with the pale blue plush trim at the collar alongside the black-and-grey Animal ears and tail serving as the focal highlights. To ensure the animal ears stood upright naturally and remained securely anchored, numerous internal clips were added. The tail was fastened around the waist using transparent elastic bands to guarantee it wouldn't slip across various seated postures. Prior to shooting, I meticulously groomed the fur with a fine comb and detangling mist to give it an airy, fluffy volume. Because black-and-grey synthetic fur tangles easily, it had to be separated gently section by section without harsh tugging to avoid frizz.

The location was a Japanese-style room lined with tatami mats. The vintage CRT television, electric fan, and dark wooden cabinets in the background harmonized seamlessly with the aesthetic of A riot of flowers and Hyakkiyako. I also prepared a thin blue cord to play cat's cradle. Sitting on the tatami and weaving the string between my fingers allowed me to settle naturally into a relaxed state. To convey that focused yet nonchalant gaze while playing string games, my eyes had to trace the movements of the string continuously while the photographer captured candid frames. The makeup concentrated on reddish-brown eyeshadow and a slightly glazed, distant gaze to evoke that feline aloofness. Styling the wig required care as well; the straight blunt bangs of the short black bob needed to maintain their gentle curve, requiring frequent touch-ups with a steel comb between takes to prevent stray flyaways.

The white knee-high White stockings severely tested leg silhouettes in seated poses; if the fabric bunched around the calves, it would ruin the lines. The photographer continuously guided the angle of my bent knees to optimize both leg contours and overall composition. Capturing that string-play shot took countless takes until my hand muscles relaxed completely to shed all stiffness. I also had to manage the drape of the skirt to let it flare out organically. Communication flowed effortlessly throughout, wrapping up the action shots amidst casual conversation. I was deeply pleased with the attire, setting, and atmosphere. For me, the most captivating aspect of cosplay is approaching a character through fine nuances—from where the gaze settles to the distribution of weight while seated, every detail demands introspection. Extensive groundwork went into studying in-game story chapters and fan creations to understand how she might respond in this quiet setting. Seeing the delivered frames turn imagination into reality was a wonderful feeling.

Regarding the visual layering of the costume, the sailor tie and the blue cuff stripes remained crisp and well-defined, while the blue overcoat exuded a soft, gentle hue under indoor ambient light. To ensure the garments remained pristine, I pressed them the night before. Studio temperatures were comfortable on the day, and the lighting setup closely simulated natural light, granting the frames clean, breathable clarity. No major hiccups occurred throughout the session; the only element demanding attention was the fluffiness of the fur collar, which occasionally brushed against my cheek during larger movements and had to be swept aside promptly. This shoot also gave me a fresh appreciation for prop utility—even a humble string game can become a splendid medium for interactive storytelling. I hope this quiet feline styling brings everyone a touch of fresh visual delight. I will continue challenging diverse characters and refining my expressive range in the future.
