[Remilia Cosplay] Forbidden Vow of the Vampire Sisters in Touhou Project

This photo set focuses on the bond of the Immoral Duo, Remilia and Flandre, from Touhou Project. We discussed extensively with the photographer before the shoot, aiming not merely to recreate the characters, but to capture through the lens an intimacy laced with a dangerous aura.

First, let's talk about the key props in the scene: the red apple and the long sword. The meaning of the apple was discussed in our initial draft—it can serve as a symbol of temptation while also implying fragility and instability. In the close-up shot holding the apple, the light lands precisely on the fruit's surface to create highlights, forming a sharp visual contrast against the dim background and perfectly highlighting the subtle aura between the sisters—one of mutual dependence yet cautious probing. On the other hand, the long sword breaks away from traditional soft styles, offering another interpretation. Holding the sword gives a conscious sense of being a guardian, yet when looking toward Flandre in front of the camera, this protection seems veiled with a hint of possessiveness, fitting the Immoral Duo's dangerous yet fascinating nature.

Regarding the outfit, the Lolita style costume we chose pays great attention to details. My character primarily features a crimson and black color block paired with an intricate red ruffled headpiece. This palette easily swallows details in a dark environment, so thanks to photographer @DeFocus：Bu's lighting, which filled in light beautifully along the fabric folds and lace edges, the red-and-black texture didn't collapse into a muddy block. My partner @椰蓉猫猫球's white and light blue dress was equally exquisite; her white ruffled mob cap gleamed with a subtle golden sheen under warm light, forming a striking warm-and-cool contrast with my dark attire.

The shooting location was selected at a venue with a vintage European aesthetic. The gold relief textures in the background were just right—never overpowering the subjects while adding an opulent layer to the imagery. This background setting aligns perfectly with the mystery of a vampire family. As for lighting, we deliberately gave up purely bright tones, choosing side-backlighting in a low-key environment instead. On one hand, this lighting approach conceals messy background shadows; on the other hand, it outlines facial contours and hair strands, making the characters appear enveloped in a hazy, mysterious halo.

The most unexpectedly comfortable aspect of this shoot was actually the interaction with my partner. Since there was substantial physical contact—such as interlocking fingers or leaning against each other—these movements needed to feel natural to avoid stiff posing. Fortunately, before the shutter clicked, my partner and I talked a lot about our thoughts on character lore, and the unforced trust she exhibited in front of the lens directly helped me relax. When shooting the embrace pose in Photo 4, I closed my eyes and leaned close to her; although holding the sword in my hand, my body's weight was completely yielded to her, and the photographer captured that exact moment to portray that sense of reliance beautifully.

For post-processing this set, the photographer preserved a degree of film grain and warm lighting tones, avoiding over-smoothing skin or chasing an unnatural chalky porcelain look. I found this approach very wise: it retained skin texture and the substantial weight of the clothing, making the characters appear as if they genuinely exist within this fantasy world. The visuals are also free of exaggerated special effects, allowing light, shadow, and props to tell the story naturally.

Overall, this series stands as one of the most story-driven photoshoots I've done recently. Through the red apple, cold sword, warm lighting, and retro setting, it materializes the Immoral Duo's relationship where obsession and tenderness coexist. Although adjusting light positions and outfits during the shoot was tiring, seeing the finished results made every bit of effort worth it.
