[Marisa cosplay] The Little Witch in Touhou Project

Preparing the costume, makeup, and props for this Marisa cosplay took quite a while, especially perfecting the skirt layers and hat structure. Designed in a Touhou fanon Lolita style, the layering of white lace over the black skirt is elaborate; the petticoat had to be sized just right to keep the silhouette full without appearing bulky. Securing the wide-brimmed hat was also time-consuming, requiring meticulous prep so it wouldn't shift across hours of shooting. The broom, serving as the main prop, was surprisingly heavy, but finding the right leverage points allowed me to project a light, playful vibe. We chose a vintage wooden cabin surrounded by hydrangeas, where the natural wood grain balanced the sweetness of the outfit, providing an ideal setting for Vintage photography. To capture natural moments, I tried various poses: standing poses required opening my arms for dynamic candids, while prone poses proved challenging due to the voluminous dress, necessitating careful leg placement to highlight the white socks and calf lines without disrupting the folds of the skirt. The photographer advised slightly lifting my feet while resting my chin in my hands, which best elongated proportions. We utilized natural light filtering through the window, casting dappled shadows on the floor to complement the outfit's atmosphere. Post-processing focused on fine-tuning the cool blues of the hydrangeas to create a striking contrast against the golden hair. While shooting such heavily layered outfits is physically demanding, this deep dive into Touhou fanon aesthetics was thoroughly rewarding.
