For this Studio shoot, we chose a purple-pink gradient backdrop paper that created an exquisite ambiance under the lights, harmonizing cleanly with the monochrome maid attire. I cosplayed Rem, the iconic blue-haired younger twin sister from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-.
The garment details are truly abundant: ruffled accents on the bodice, detached arm sleeves, and crisscross waist lacings that took substantial time to adjust while dressing. To ensure the outfit remained tidy during expansive gestures, the alignment of the straps and skirt folds was repeatedly fine-tuned before shooting. To elevate the visual effect, I wore white over-the-knee Stockings whose lace trim echoed the skirt's hemline. For footwear, glossy black Mary Janes with delicate ribbon bows at the toes added a touch of refinement. From the azure hair and red ribbon to the overall black-and-white attire, the chromatic contrast of the entire character was remarkably vivid.
The shoot proceeded very smoothly. For the shot holding the serving tray, I needed to sit sideways on a white prop box, extending my leg line while keeping my upper body upright. To achieve a flattering seated posture, I shifted my center of gravity slightly back and staggered my legs, maximally showcasing the tiered layers of the over-the-knee stockings and skirt hem. For the frames holding a plastic cup and cradling desserts, the photographer reminded me to avoid stiffness, so I relaxed my shoulders and let my eyes meet the lens naturally. The pose kicking one leg up behind was quite playful—though balancing on one leg in heeled Mary Janes tested my core, the resulting frame was delightfully lively. For the kneeling shot, because my knees rested directly against the floor, keeping balance even with a blanket was necessary to prevent awkward posture deformation. Throughout the process, the photographer was wonderful at guiding, constantly reminding me to tuck my chin slightly, straighten my spine, avoid stiff hands, and keep my wrists relaxed when holding props; these subtle tweaks aided the final output immensely.
When portraying Rem, beyond her iconic blue hair and red ribbon bow, capturing her emotional nuances is vital. She possesses both professional maid poise and youthful vivacity. I strove to unite these two facets through my gaze and body language. For instance, when presenting sweets, I infused a tender, focused gentleness; when bearing the tray, I held an upright, disciplined posture. Navigating this delicate emotional transition required continuous experimentation before the lens to strike the most natural balance.
The overall makeup was kept clean, emphasizing blue contacts and red lips to harmonize with the wig. The wig was styled ahead of time, with bangs and side tendrils trimmed to flatter my face, while the pearl flower headband was firmly secured so it wouldn't slip during tilts or turns.
The shoot took place at Qimi Huanjing Studio, which offered generous space and deep focal length, making it ideal for shoots balancing scene and subject. The photographer had a keen eye for motion, often pressing the shutter right as I shifted poses. Since this was a collaborative TFP shoot, we aligned on the desired aesthetic and reference mood boards beforehand, allowing us to hit the ground running efficiently on set. The gaffer adjusted the lighting setup according to the background and outfit tones, ensuring the subject wasn't swallowed by the backdrop while retaining the fine textures of the black fabric. The keeper rate was exceptionally high, with every frame preserving the heartfelt dedication poured into this shoot.
