[Rem Cosplay] Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-: Custom Concept Convention photo at Moeka Anime Convention

The convention photo set from the Moeka Anime Convention on July 14 is finally sorted out. I personally love this custom concept series of Rem Cosplay, so while the excitement is fresh, let me share some details from the photoshoot.

Let's talk about the styling concept first. For this custom Rem outfit, I chose a classic blue-and-white palette. The upper body features a lustrous blue satin modified Chinese short-sleeved top, retaining the mandarin collar and frog fastener details; the lower half is a mini skirt trimmed with white lace ruffles. The white underbust corset and cascading slender ribbons at the waist make the overall silhouette more three-dimensional. As this is a custom concept, I paired it with over-the-knee White stockings and white high heels. The dual-toned wig with white and blue hair was also meticulously styled; the top bun and draping white ribbons framed the visual look perfectly. The eye makeup emphasized vivid red contacts and long lashes over a clean base, which, paired with the reflective floor, made my presence stand out crisply on camera.

The shoot took place inside the convention hall. The hall's lighting was somewhat mixed, mainly coming from ceiling lamps and large floor-to-ceiling windows, but in such an airy convention environment, the light looked remarkably natural. In particular, the venue's black reflective flooring acted as a natural bounce board, clearly mirroring silhouettes and creating great clarity through the photographer's lens. Huge thanks to photographer Siming for capturing these candid moments. With heavy crowds and a cluttered background, we sought out relatively open areas. The photographer handled lighting angles with great expertise, leveraging strong backlighting to generate a soft rim-lit halo around the silhouette, cleanly separating me from the bustling crowd.

We planned two primary pose directions for this shoot. One was a clean, sharp standing pose holding a short baton, with arms naturally separated, paired with a slight side profile and focused gaze to convey the character's gallant, valiant side. This stance was a real test of core stability, as high heels are inherently unsteady and maintaining equilibrium kept my entire body taut. The other pose was sitting directly on the floor doing the splits, which beautifully showcased the lines of the legs and the White stockings. The floor was hard, and without a mat for convenience, sitting straight down was somewhat painful, but completely worthwhile for a stunning visual. The photographer encouraged me to experiment with varied angles, like the first two shots flashing a peace sign, capturing Rem's cute and playful everyday charm beyond her combat persona.

Regarding props, I prepared a black short baton. Maneuvering this prop—whether letting it hang vertically or gripping it with both hands—filled empty hand positions nicely, adding rich dynamic visual interest. Combining this Chinese qipao and White stockings already creates striking visual contrast, and adding martial arts elements brought the action right to life.

Looking back at these convention photos now, reflecting on how hectic the day was at the Moeka Anime Convention, time truly flew by. Shooting at a convention is demanding physical work: walking around in high heels across the venue while hunting for clean backdrops in different zones. The morning was packed with harsh light; in the afternoon, the light softened, but foot traffic remained dense, requiring us to wait for crowds to disperse before framing clean compositions.

I made many subtle adjustments on-site to this custom outfit, such as tweaking the hemline of the top and the fit of the stockings to ensure maximum comfort. Only when you feel comfortable can your movements feel natural and your photos carry genuine conviction. Finally, thanks again to the photographer who worked tirelessly snapping away for me, and to the support crew friends who helped touch up my hair and wardrobe. These convention photos taken inside the venue documented my most authentic state that day; every time I see these shifts in light and shadow, I am transported back to the lively energy of the convention floor.
