Today's shoot is Shimoe Koharu's bunny girl styling from Blue Archive.
This studio shoot mainly revolves around the white one-piece bodysuit, white stockings, and the overall pink visual effect. The costume is made of patent leather material, which has strong reflections. When setting up the lighting, to avoid large-area overexposure, the photographer adjusted the ratio of main light to fill light, allowing the white clothing to retain details in the frame while also highlighting the translucent feel of the character's skin. The wig is pink long straight hair, which needed a bit of volume treatment, plus black feather hair accessories and white bunny ears to bring out the overall volume of the head. To make the hairstyle look more natural, I used a root-teasing treatment at the hair roots and fixed the bangs with styling spray to ensure they wouldn't look messy due to oversized movements during shooting. White stockings are very prone to snagging when worn, so I made full preparations before shooting, especially for the part matching the strap garter rings, which required adjusting the tightness to prevent slipping down while posing. In terms of makeup, to match the character's girlish vibe, the eyeshadow used a warm pink base with a little bit of glitter on the aegyo-sal (under-eye area), blush applied under the eyes and on the nose tip to create a natural flushed feeling, and the lips featured a relatively watery lip glaze. The overall makeup look is clean without overly heavy eyeliner.
In terms of props, to fit the character, accessories like a black tray and black wings were used. At the same time, a white European-carved chair and a white cylindrical display stand were matched. Under the foil of the pink background paper, these two props can very well focus the visual center of gravity on the character. Because this time it's a bunny girl theme, in action design, I tried different postures such as sitting, standing, and half-squatting. For example, when sitting on the chair, special attention needs to be paid to the display of leg lines, crossing and lifting both legs, which can both highlight the proportion of white stockings and prevent the frame from looking rigid. When standing on the cylindrical stand, to maintain the upright feeling of the body, it is necessary to tighten the core while placing the center of gravity on the back leg, with the front leg slightly bent, which can visually elongate the leg lines. When using the black tray as a prop, I would exert a little force on my wrist to show a sense of lightness of carrying a tray, rather than holding it stiffly.
Expression management is also a major challenge. Shimoe Koharu is a relatively shy character, so when facing the lens, she cannot always use sharp eyes, but must maintain a slightly shy yet playful smile. For example, putting hands together or lowering the head slightly, these details can all help shape the character's personality. To increase the interactive sense of the frame, some actions like reaching out to the lens or lifting props were also designed to make the photos look more vibrant. Sometimes, to capture an optimal angle, the photographer would have me repeatedly adjust the tilt angle of my head, which needs to catch the catchlight in the eyes without looking contrived; this really tests one's relaxation in front of the lens.
The entire shooting process lasted about three hours, from makeup and styling to adjusting lighting, and then to repeatedly refining actions, every step was very time-consuming. The patent leather costume is not only stuffy to wear, but also extremely easy to leave fingerprints and dust, requiring constant wiping during shooting breaks. Standing in high heels for a long time also made the calf muscles tight, but for the sake of the picture effect, I still had to maintain an extended posture in front of the lens. However, the moment I saw the final photos, all this hard work was worth it. The collision of the white bunny girl and the pink background has both visual impact and can well highlight the white stockings and leg lines. From the perspective of composition, the use of center composition and the golden ratio makes the frame look very balanced. I hope through this set of photos, I can accurately convey the cuteness and a slight touch of sexiness of the character to the audience. The completion degree of this styling also gave me more confidence for subsequent anime cosplay creations, and every preparation and shoot is a re-understanding of the character.
