"Subaru is Rem's hero." Carrying this belief, I attended the TCD anime convention on July 28, 2024. This shoot serves as Cosplay photo sharing of Convention photos for Rem Cosplay, and I am extremely grateful to photographer Xing Lan for the patient guidance on-site.
Let's start with the preparation for hair and makeup. The wig used for Rem Cosplay this time was long, straight blue hair. To match the character's traits, I attached white flower hair accessories and pink cross hairpins to my head. The hair looked smooth overall and was largely tangle-free. For makeup, I wore a pair of bright blue contacts. To give my gaze a sharper look, red eyeshadow blending was applied around the eyes, which, paired with red lips, resulted in photos matching the character's intertwined aura of cool reserve and cuteness.
In terms of costume, this is a black-and-white maid outfit. The upper body features a white lace blouse with thin black ribbons and a bow at the neckline. The sleeves are designed wide and loose, made with translucent lace fabric. The lower half is a long skirt—a black dress layered with a white apron adorned with exquisite lace ruffles and three-dimensional rose textures. The skirt hem is long with multiple layers, making the entire outfit quite heavy. While the air conditioning inside the convention hall was decent, the huge crowd made it very stuffy, so walking around in it was quite exhausting. However, for the sake of the final visual presentation, all that effort was completely worthwhile.
The shoot took place right on the convention floor with many passersby in the background. To create cleaner frames, photographer Xing Lan primarily used a wide-aperture lens to create beautiful bokeh, blurring out the background and crowds. Following the photographer's guidance, I displayed several different sets of poses: looking up over the shoulder, making a finger heart toward the lens, turning sideways to showcase the sleeves, and crossing my hands neatly in front of my chest in a demure posture. The shot I am most pleased with is the front-facing photo lifting the skirt hem with both hands; this angle not only fully displays the layered skirt and lace details, but also centers the figure in the composition, providing a very balanced visual weight. There is also a shot reaching a hand forward from a side angle, carrying an inviting dynamic feel.
My overall state on the day of the shoot was quite good. Since the main light source at the venue came from overhead circular pendant lamps, the cool-toned lighting actually matched the character's blue hair exceptionally well and rendered translucent skin tones. During the shoot, we also took care to avoid areas with messy lighting, trying to frame shots near pillars where the ceiling lighting was evenly distributed.
At this TCD anime convention, I met many friends who love ACG culture. The Cosplay photo sharing was delivered very quickly; the raw retouches preserved the original texture without over-smoothing or distortion, retaining the skin texture and costume fabric details. This Rem Cosplay experience was fantastic—while ensuring fidelity to the details, the photographer's lens also captured the character's unique temperament. For me, looking through these Convention photos after the event and reminiscing about the on-site atmosphere and posing is a delightful memory, putting a perfect finishing touch to this anime convention.
