The Convention photos from the Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition are finally retouched and ready, featuring Rem cosplay once again! For this white bridal-style dress, I spent more than half a month preparing everything beforehand. From trimming and setting the wig to ironing every tier of lace on the dress, down to coordinating the prop bouquet, I was nitpicking every little detail. Fortunately, my condition was pretty good on the day of the expo; even though Chengdu's night was breezy, the moment the outdoor strobe lights flashed down, all the exhaustion felt completely worthwhile.
Let's talk about the overall concept of this look first. In the original design from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, Rem is known for her classic maid uniform, but this time I wanted to try something different, so I chose an all-white dress style. The dress is a multi-layered ruffled puff gown containing plenty of sheer tulle and delicate lace, while silver chains and heart charms at the waist inject a touch of metallic coolness. To stay faithful to the character, I wore a bright blue short wig, trimming textured blunt bangs. The fluffy animal ears on my head were custom-made by a prop crafter—the fur texture is remarkably natural, instantly evoking that 2D anime feel once put on. For contacts, I picked matching blue ones, paired with slightly pink-toned eye makeup to make my gaze pop brighter before the lens. A white plush choker adorned my neck, and the gloves were accented with lace detailing, with detached wrist cuffs elevating the overall luxury. Leg styling details were equally vital: wearing white lace-trimmed garter Stockings paired with transparent platform high-heeled sandals, the look took on a wonderfully translucent texture under the night lights.
For props, I prepared a handheld bouquet blending white and blue roses, with long white satin ribbons cascading down; when posing with it, the fluttering ribbons added dynamic vitality to the frame. Beyond the bouquet, I also brought a blue-and-white plush doll to infuse an adorable, soft touch. Of course, the most eye-catching element was that massive blue fluffy tail—it needed to be fastened securely in place, and turning slightly sideways or facing away from the camera showed it off to perfection.
The shoot took place at a plaza adjacent to water, with the urban night skyline and distant lights serving as the background. Night photography tests lighting above all else, so we set up a flash directly in front to separate the subject from the backdrop with distinct depth. Distant background lights blurred into circular bokeh balls, forming sharp chiaroscuro contrast against the white dress. To achieve superior composition, the photographer brought over a silver folding step-ladder; I sat upon the ladder with legs dangling naturally, which not only showed off leg lines and the texture of the Stockings, but also allowed the skirt's rich tiers to flourish. For the shots seated on the ground, a white circular plush rug was placed underneath; curling up while cradling the plush doll brought a completely different vibe from the glamorous standing shots, leaning far more toward quiet sweetness and gentle innocence.
The entire shooting session was quite a physical workout: maneuvering up and down a ladder in high heels while managing a massive dress, all while keeping the wig and ears perfectly aligned. Fortunately, the photographer was fantastic at directing poses, capturing many spontaneous, organic moments. For instance, the shot looking back over my shoulder at the camera required leaning slightly backward while unfurling the tail completely, taking several takes to find that flawless angle. That is precisely the magic of Convention photos—it records not merely the character, but also the self who poured sincere dedication into what she loves. The harmony of nighttime lighting and the white bridal dress created a truly dreamy ambiance, and I hope this photo set conveys this serene aesthetic to everyone.
