Short blue hair paired with a black cat-ear headband, along with the iconic pink layered bows—this look carries highly distinctive visual characteristics in its color scheme. Before the official shoot, I focused on handling the layering of the wig, allowing the light blue to present a subtle gradient effect under natural light instead of looking like stiff color blocks. The placement of the cat ears on top of the head was also adjusted several times to ensure they wouldn't overlap or squeeze against the headband during low-angle shots, which could ruin the outline proportions of the head.

The tailoring of the costume is the core of this maid outfit. The black and white patchwork of the upper body needs to be crisp without making the shoulders look broad. The white lace at the black chest patch seam and the ruffle stitching at the apron edge were all meticulously positioned. The bow at the neckline was selected in a stiff satin material so that even when squatting down and folding my arms, it wouldn't soften or tilt crookedly. The cuffs are a classic ruffled short-sleeve design paired with black arm sleeves, showcasing the arm lines while maintaining the unique, well-behaved feel of a maid outfit. The curvature of the petticoat underneath was also deliberately adjusted, letting the black skirt hem scatter naturally during the squatting pose, peeking out just enough of the thigh area to form a complete color-block transition with the black over-the-knee thigh-high stockings.

In terms of makeup, the eyeliner was elongated and slightly tilted upward to neutralize the roundness of the face shape. The base makeup was kept clean and matte, ensuring that facial colors wouldn't steal the visual focus from the outfit. For the nails, a minimalist pale green nail art was chosen, which wouldn't look out of place when paired with the overall fresh blue-black color scheme.

Regarding the posing and composition, to put a heavy focus on displaying the stockings and leg lines, I deliberately chose a low-angle upward shot combined with a semi-squat. This angle not only captures the cat ears on the head, the shoulder/neck lines, and the apron fully but also utilizes perspective to elongate the leg proportions. The treatment where the black thigh-high stockings meet the skin is the key to the final photos; the transition of light and shadow falling on the black-and-white dividing line of the thighs emphasizes the character's visual lightness. The platform black leather shoes also serve as a great concluding touch, letting the sense of strength in the lower body land solidly on the ground.

The background was selected at an outdoor venue, where the wooden frames and light-colored sunshades provided an excellent ambient color. This allowed me to leverage the soft light under the canopy and the reflection from the grey floor tiles while in a squatting pose, avoiding heavy shadows on my face. Although there was some text on the background banner, it was successfully blurred through depth-of-field processing, locking the visual focus squarely on the character.

This set of photos went through two post-processing schemes. Photo 2 features hand-drawn style white dashed stickers of balloons, clouds, stars, and cat paw prints. While preserving the original appearance of the character, it adds a lively journal aesthetic, suitable for enriching the image layers when browsing on mobile devices. Meanwhile, Photo 4 introduces a chibi plush doll of the same character styling. The feather duster and pink heart in the doll's hands create a nice interactive narrative with the person, filling a large area of negative space and making the composition balanced and full.

The color tone and atmosphere of the entire set lean toward a crisp, gentle style without heavy filter rendering. The purpose was to restore the color saturation of the costume, makeup, and props themselves to the maximum extent. This kind of attempt carrying specific color memories, whether for a precise anime recreation or for adding a bit of contextual flavor on top of it, is a way to express love for the character from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World. I hope the visual observation presented this way can preserve this simple and pure character trait, just like the image in our memories, within this practice of Anime-style photography.
