[Kagamine Rin Cosplay] Black and Gold Vintage Style Custom Design, Candid Shoot Under Piano and Red Curtains

This set of black and gold vintage style custom design looks is an attempt I am highly satisfied with recently in terms of both outfit coordination and scene management. Based on a main color scheme of black and gold, the upper body incorporates retro military uniform tailoring elements, where the golden tassels on both shoulders combined with the white bow tie at the collar shape a crisp yet gorgeous silhouette visually. The black lace fingerless gloves on the arms neutralize the monotony of the dark fabrics while adding detail-level elegance to the movements, and the addition of the cane prop elevates the completeness of the entire styling.

Regarding the makeup and hair design, I selected a light golden fluffy short wig, adorned with several black bobby pins, paired with slightly curled bangs and blue-grey contact lenses to create a slightly mysterious doll-like atmosphere. This echoes the complex, exquisite golden embroidery on the skirt hem and the light golden multi-layer ruffles at the bottom, finding a wonderful balance between classical elegance and anime aesthetics.

The shooting venue was specifically selected for its retro theater style. The grand piano, scattered sheet music, and deep red velvet curtains along with colorful stained glass windows in the background perfectly matched the thematic tone of this fan-made design cosplay. The photographer managed the light and shadow wonderfully during the shoot; instead of using flat, high-exposure direct light, they used a deep, dark background and partial highlights to outline the figure's silhouette, allowing the texture of the black and gold costume and tassels to present a delicate reflection under the light.

This low-key yet highly layered lighting method greatly enhanced the dramatic tension of the frames, making every moment of swinging the cape or lifting the skirt hem feel extremely story-rich. During the shoot, we experimented with several different camera angles. For instance, close-ups of the skirt-lifting action fully displayed the leg lines and stocking silhouettes, while medium-shot portraits captured the interaction between the cane and the piano. The post-production team also exercised restraint in editing, preserving the skin texture, costume folds, and natural transitions of light and shadow without flattening the image.

I have always believed that the meaning of fan-made design cosplay lies in not being confined to the official outfits of the original work; you can start from the character's native temperament to explore more diverse styles and possibilities. This black and gold outfit coordination not only integrates my personal aesthetic of classical elegance but also, through the delicate apparel details and seamless scene cooperation, made it much easier for me to step into character in front of the lens. I discussed many composition ideas with the photographer before the shoot, and the final results indeed exceeded my expectations. Looking at the angles and depth-of-field arrangement of every photo, the dedication throughout the creative process is highly palpable. Whether looking down in deep thought next to the sheet music on the piano or leaning slightly back while propping up the black cane, these varied poses look remarkably natural and coordinated under the retro environment. This cooperation granted me a deeper understanding of using this prop and allowed me to experience the unique charm generated when sheet music, instruments, and character styling are deeply bound together.
