[Mornye cosplay] Serene Ice Blue: A Gaze from Wuthering Waves

For this shoot of Mornye from Wuthering Waves, a great deal of thought went into early preparations to capture her cool, aloof, yet tender aura. At first glance, the most eye-catching elements of this look are the gradient layers of the hair and the floating halo overhead.

To align closely with the character design, I specifically chose a Light blue wig with a cool-white base and ice-blue highlights. The texture of the hair strands needed to be as featherlight and airy as possible without looking bulky, which would otherwise clash with the Cool and aloof vibe. The floating halo prop posed a real challenge: we had to make it appear completely unsupported in frame while preventing it from wobbling during the shoot. Using ultra-fine hidden supports on set, combined with post-processing touch-ups, finally achieved this seamless visual effect.

Regarding the costume, the design featuring a sailor-collar element resonated with me deeply. The lower section features delicate geometric diamond-quilted patchwork, while the outer layer is made of an off-white fabric with a pearlescent, reflective sheen that scatters dreamy light and shadows under the high-key diffused studio lighting. The asymmetrical dashboard gauge ornament and buckle hardware across the chest add crisp techwear details, infusing the look with anime fantasy charm while preserving tangible garment texture for Anime-style photography.

In terms of makeup, the priority was maintaining a clean, soft complexion. Eye makeup was kept subtle, using only delicate eyeliner to sculpt the eye shape, paired with a muted lip shade to accentuate that weary yet peaceful, melancholic aura. Thought was also poured into posing and micro-expressions—avoiding loud or exaggerated poses in favor of downcast eyes, arms crossed in a relaxed yet guarded posture, and fingers casually hooking the hanging strap to convey the character's quiet, introspective inner world.

Studio lighting on the day of the shoot was paramount. Given the abundance of light blue and pearlescent white elements, harsh lighting would easily create greasy reflections or stiff contrast. We opted for expansive softbox perimeter lighting to simulate gentle diffused reflections, enveloping the figure in soft illumination so the skin looked translucent with a cool undertone. For color grading in post-production, the overall color temperature and ambient lighting were intentionally steered toward cool bluish hues to echo the character's established atmosphere.

There were plenty of small hiccups during the shoot—the halo support occasionally snagged hair strands, or the collar badge shifted slightly while posing—yet these on-the-spot adjustments and communications formed a genuinely authentic part of the photoshoot journey. Seeing that tranquil atmosphere faithfully captured in the final shots brought a true sense of accomplishment. As a cosplayer, contemplating how to convey a character's emotions through lighting, bodily control, makeup, and hair styling is far more meaningful than simply putting on a costume. I hope this photo set allows everyone to experience the unique tenderness and serenity of this Mornye cosplay.
