This set of convention photos was shot in a large exhibition hall with a very high ceiling. Seeing the dense lighting matrix at the top back then, I decided right away that I had to shoot a set of portraits with a slightly industrial, cool tone. The equipment used this time was the Sony A7M5 paired with the 24-70mm GM2; this combination is truly a powerhouse for convention photos. In low-light environments, the A7M5's dynamic range made it much easier for us to recover shadow details during post-processing, while the focal length coverage of the 24-70 GM2 allowed me to seamlessly switch between the wide-angle to capture the convention's grand background and the 70mm end to highlight character emotions.

To neutralize this cool, rigid background, we laid a white circular plush rug in the center of the venue and brought along a white plush rabbit doll. This black slip dress paired with black stockings inherently carries a bit of subtle sexiness and laziness. I specially matched it with a blue-and-gray striped plush shawl, which not only echoes my blue short hair, but also visually increases some soft layering. Because there were no complex, large-scale props, the focus was placed more heavily on body language.

Take the first pose of standing on one leg and lifting the skirt hem; the core idea was to elongate the leg lines, showcasing the texture of the stockings and the extension of the leg muscles. To maintain balance, the core actually needs to be pulled in very tightly, and the instep must also be pointed straight. The photographer utilized a low-angle upward shot, combined with the A7M5's articulating screen, to very precisely capture this fleeting moment. The second sitting posture on the ground is relatively relaxed, with both hands raised in a stretching gesture, which, paired with the plush texture of the rug, adds a bit of home-like intimacy.

The convention venue is actually very noisy with high foot traffic, and various kinds of messy lighting coming from overhead and the sides. To find clean lighting, we waited for a long time to grab a patch of empty space at this location. The A7M5's eye autofocus is an absolute lifesaver in such complex environments; even when bystanders occasionally walked past in front of the lens, the autofocus box locked firmly onto my eyes. The third close-up shot with hands on hips utilized the dark tones of the venue's background to highlight the character's face, the lens's bokeh blur is extremely soft, and the overall presentation possesses a very crisp texture.

When doing the makeup and styling, the blue wig must have stray hairs around the edges cleaned up neatly using hairspray, and the pink X-shaped hairpin and the bow on top of the head were fixed with multiple bobby pins to prevent them from falling off while walking. The eye makeup used a cooler blue color scheme, and the highlighting was applied relatively restrainedly. The lighting at this venue was actually quite complex; although the overhead matrix lighting looked nice, if shot directly with flat lighting, the subject would appear very flat. Therefore, we tried our best to find corners with light-and-shadow transitions, allowing light to hit from the side or diagonally above to increase the facial dimensionality. The 24-70 GM2 lens has fantastic distortion control around the 50mm end, so when shooting half-body close-ups, the facial proportions look extremely natural.

The plush shawl is actually quite thick and a bit hot to wear inside the convention center, but for the sake of frame layering and color echoing, I wore it the entire time. The white plush rug served as a great reflector; even on a dark floor, it could slightly brighten the light at the bottom, making the skin tone on the legs look more translucent. That white rabbit doll was a temporary decision to bring along; sprawling in the corner of the rug, it added a bit of vitality and interactivity to the cool-toned frame. Actually, shooting this kind of convention photo that feels homey yet slightly sexy is that the hardest part is maintaining a sense of relaxation in a noisy environment. The photographer was very experienced, constantly guiding emotions on the side and telling me not to be too tense, but to naturally feel the lens.

This set of photos didn't take long to edit because the lighting was captured accurately in the early stage, and the A7M5's out-of-camera colors were already quite good. Post-processing mainly adjusted the overall color temperature, shifting it slightly towards a cool tone, which enhanced the contrast between the black dress and blue hair. The charm of convention photos lies precisely in this moment-by-moment recording feel; it's not as flawless as a studio, but it exudes a real sense of breathing.

Every time I put on a character, it's a process of rediscovering and interpreting. Through these photos, I hope everyone can feel that unique collision of cool aesthetics and character charm under the convention lights.
