On January 11 at the Beijing Exhibition Center for the Beijing iDo Anime Convention, I completed the shoot for this set of Yae Miko convention photos. The atmosphere at this convention was extremely good. Right after entering, I could feel the dense anime cosplay vibe. Both the lighting arrangement on site and the enthusiasm of fellow fans around gave me a lot of creative motivation.
This costume features a very fluffy, light-colored wedding dress design. On my head, I wore a gold-trimmed fox-ear headpiece paired with a white translucent veil, exuding a sacred yet playful feeling. The main color palette of the dress is an alternating light pink and white tulle, with an extremely wide skirt hem, which, combined with the inner layer of orange-pink pleated lining, presents rich layers during every turn or movement. I especially love the matching white thigh-high socks and the lace garter rings; these details not only elongate the leg proportions but also add a few hints of elegance to the character. The chunky rhinestone sandals on my feet are the finishing touch, keeping the entire look unified in a wedding atmosphere from the hairstyle down to the toes.
The shooting process this time heavily tested our collaboration. The French windows and vintage chandeliers at the shooting location provided excellent convention light effects, and combined with the photographer's strong frontal flash, successfully brightened me out from the background, forming a highly high-tension screen effect. The pose in the photo where one leg is raised high is actually a difficulty that many fellow fans ask about; maintaining the body's center of gravity stable while preventing the skirt hem from getting tangled in the legs, and managing facial expressions at the same time, was quite a physical task during the shoot. But to capture the agile moment where the skirt hem scatters in mid-air and the long white-stockinged legs are revealed, it was all worth it. The squatting pose was a bit more relaxed, allowing me to maintain a lighter smile to present the character's intimacy.
To recreate this character, I did a lot of homework on the makeup and styling. The base makeup pursued a light and translucent quality, while the eye makeup was intentionally elongated and blended, matching the wig to shape the blurry gaze inherent to a fox attribute. The pink wig underwent multiple rounds of trimming and styling to present the slightly fluffy yet clearly layered twin-tails form in the pictures. As convention photos, there were actually many pieces of equipment and pedestrians on site. The photographer needed to find good low-angle shots and perspectives that avoided the crowd to make the frame look clean and sharp.
In short, the convention photos from this iDo Anime Convention were a very happy experience. Fitting into this gear and striking those somewhat exaggerated yet character-appropriate poses, I truly found that elegant, playful, and slightly tsundere feeling of Yae Miko. This costume and wig left beautiful convention memories in my heart, and I hope to always maintain my love for cosplay and continue to bring more dedicated works.
