[Kanade Tachibana Cosplay] Angel Beats!: Dreaming a Silent Dream Among the Clouds

This Kanade Tachibana cosplay took quite a bit of effort from preparation to shooting, especially that pair of wings and the flowing veil gown. It was very windy on the shoot day, and I originally worried it might ruin the effect; unexpectedly, the wind gave the tulle dress and strands of hair a natural sense of flow, making it fit that airy lightness of an angel descending even better.

Regarding makeup and styling, I deliberately toned down eyeshadow and lip color, emphasizing translucent foundation and soft contours because Kanade Tachibana is an emotionally reserved, pure, and clean character. For the wig, I picked a pale silver-purple shade and trimmed the bang length to ensure it wouldn't completely block my eyes in the wind while preserving that silky drape. The Feathered wings were handcrafted; to maintain fluffiness and dimension in the feathers, a lightweight frame was built inside. Although putting them on and taking them off was a hassle, they look genuinely substantial on camera.

The location was chosen at a seaside rock area, where the blue-and-white sky and dark rocks created a great color contrast for Sky photography. I chose to sit sideways on the rock edge, bare feet dangling, softly holding a golden bouquet—a temporary touch arranged by the prop team. The yellow brightens the visual focus within cool tones while echoing that subtle warmth from Angel Beats!.

Photographically, we shot backlit with a wide aperture, letting soft halos glow through the clouds above, while using flashes to fill light on facial and skirt shadows to avoid flat overexposure. Post-processing focused on preserving the realism of falling feathers without excessive retouching, making the picture look like a candid moment rather than a forced pose. Honestly, the hardest part of cosplay isn't how elaborate the costume is, but how to immerse yourself into the character's aura—even just sitting quietly requires repeated adjustments in eye contact and body relaxation. The shoot took about two hours; trying out poses in the wind alone took over a dozen takes. The final selection happened to capture the moment when the wind was strongest, hair most windblown, yet the expression was at its most natural.

Whenever doing cosplay of angel themes, people often comment on terms like "ethereal" or "sacred," but I feel Kanade Tachibana represents more of a silent stubbornness and gentleness. She needs no superfluous words; simply standing there allows people to feel her presence. Therefore, I tried to minimize exaggerated facial expressions during the shoot, simply closing my eyes to feel the wind and sun, letting the shutter capture that exact state.

I also hope this photo conveys that quiet yet resolute feeling. The entire look from wig to shoes was coordinated by myself; though the process was tiring, seeing the final photos made it completely worth it.
