I have finally organized this Kanade Tachibana cosplay grand piano photoshoot.

A lot of thought went into this shoot, from preparation to final execution.

Regarding the wig and colored contacts, the light ice-blue long straight hair paired with straight bangs and long sideburns is the visual core of this character. To recreate that inherent soft-focus transparency from the anime, matte hair fibers were chosen and meticulously layered. For the contacts, I chose a translucent amber gold, paired with a bright eye makeup look, hoping to convey that cool yet focused expression.

The cream-white blazer and magenta collar patchwork are key features of this uniform. The white ribbon and red tie clip at the collar serve as the finishing touches, which required a lot of effort in handcrafting and post-processing adjustments. Ironing alone took a substantial amount of time to ensure every crease looked sharp and clean.

The location chosen for this shoot was a music room, with the central prop being a grand piano. With the lid propped open, the golden strings and intricate mechanical structures inside provided excellent textures for the photography. When communicating with the photographer, we didn't want a generic sweet style. Instead, we wanted to utilize the dark-toned background and the piano's texture to create a quiet, elegant, and slightly mysterious, solitary theatrical atmosphere.

During the shoot, the most memorable part was actually adjusting positions for different shots. Establishing and wide shots required capturing the sense of space between the person and the instrument, while close-ups and medium shots needed to make use of the subtle reflection on the piano's lacquered mirror finish. There is one composition that uses the reflection on the piano lid; we repeatedly adjusted the angle over a dozen times to get the reflection perfectly aligned. This is also my favorite visual language in this entire set.

The lighting utilized soft facial light as the key light, combined with a side-top rim light to outline the character's silhouette. This preserved the soft appearance inherent to Kanade Tachibana while bringing out the dimension of the clothing, preventing it from blending into a blurry mess against the black piano background.

I really struggled during the selection and layout process because every single photo carried a different vibe—whether it was the metallic texture of the piano strings or the tension of a quiet, down-looking angle. Therefore, I decided to split them into several groups and post them gradually. Just like a beautiful lyric, you don't need to listen to it all at once; savoring it slowly brings out its true flavor.

This collaboration felt like a cross-regional connection, drawing from both the Sydney and Beijing Anime-style photography communities. Encountering a photography team with a matching style was truly a stroke of luck. The photographer's compositional perspective was highly creative, especially that tilted wide-angle shot, which broke away from conventional horizontal and vertical lines, instantly giving the static image a sense of breath and dramatic conflict.

For me, doing cosplay is not just about putting on a beautiful outfit; it's about extracting the emotions of that character. Kanade Tachibana is a character who is cold on the outside but warm on the inside, hiding her gentleness deep within. Using the piano as a vehicle happens to silently convey this quiet strength.

Although preparing the costume and wearing the wig was tedious, the moment I saw the final photos, I felt all the effort was completely worth it. For now, I'll release these photos from different angles; there are still several sets featuring different expressions to be shared gradually in the coming days.

There was also a small episode during the shoot: the side of the piano was extremely slippery. While the reflection looked absolutely stunning, I had to be very careful when standing near it. To get this perfect shot, I had to carefully adjust my position multiple times.
