For this shoot at Anime Star City, I selected a relatively rare private white outfit styling for Rei Ayanami. To step beyond the collective impression of her iconic plugsuit, photographer NightDiva and I deliberated at length, ultimately deciding to present her quiet, ethereal coolness through a more vintage, everyday aesthetic. To align with the character's essence, I began adjusting my routine and diet half a month in advance, keeping facial contours smooth to ensure peak presence before the lens.

Hair and makeup that day required considerable attention. To capture that otherworldly detachment, I wore a voluminous ice-blue short wig accented with a white lace hair accessory at the crown. Eye makeup was the focal point of the face; I blended soft pinkish eye shadow across a broad area, paired with dewy peachy-pink lip glaze and reddish-orange contact lenses, creating that crystal-clear yet subtly melancholic gaze on camera. For wardrobe, I chose a pure White dress featuring a high collar, delicate front buttons, and short capelet-style sleeves trimmed with scalloped lace over the shoulders. A crisscross corset tie was added at the waist to sculpt the waistline while ensuring the A-line drape of the skirt flared naturally. For the lower half, I coordinated white Stockings pantyhose with double-strap black patent leather block-heel Mary Janes.

The shooting set featured a beautifully textured wood-grain paneled wall; as sunlight filtered in, it cast striking geometric light patches across the wall and subject. To keep the composition engaging, I held a transparent umbrella prop. When opened, refracted light from the umbrella's rim fell across my face, creating a comforting visual contrast between the cool-toned subject and the warm brown backdrop of the wooden wall. Throughout the session, I continuously refined my body language—folding hands over my chest, gently grazing the side of my neck, closing my eyes in quiet reverie, or looking back over my shoulder—striving to convey a state with minimal external emotional turbulence yet profound inner nuance.

Since we shot during the afternoon, the ambient light shifted rapidly, requiring us to catch the sunlight piercing through gaps the instant it appeared. To do justice to this styling and ensemble, I remained relaxed before the lens, pacing my breathing to prevent stiffness in my movements. From concept and scouting to the final shutter clicks, this series was carefully polished, and I am personally delighted with the resulting light, shadow, and tactile textures. Completing this shoot has deepened my understanding of this character even further.
