For this Anime convention, I chose the character Suzuran from Arknights, and the overall shoot went much smoother than I anticipated. In terms of makeup and styling, the key was coordinating the wig, animal ears, and tails for this Kemonomimi cosplay. To bring out Suzuran's soft, healing aura, I opted for warm tones in my eye makeup paired with light green colored contacts, striving to make my gaze appear crystal clear. The outfit featured a custom Lolita style white top and mint green pleated skirt, paired with white lace ankle socks and black round-toe leather shoes; this color scheme naturally carries a very soothing and refreshing comfort.
The staff prop was handmade in advance, taking plenty of care with the floral wreath, vines, and ribbons. It carried some noticeable weight in hand, but it truly served as the crowning touch. At the Anime convention venue, we found a backdrop featuring greenery and white-framed windows, where the natural soft reflections of the glass served as a gentle background. During shooting, to keep poses from looking stiff, I tried various movements like lifting one leg slightly, holding the staff with both hands, or lightly touching my hair, shifting my center of gravity to create graceful curves. In terms of cosplay fidelity, it is not just about wearing the costume, but more importantly about immersing oneself in the character's expression and body language. Through these photos, I hope to capture Suzuran's gentle, quiet, and heartwarming presence.
Since the Anime convention was quite crowded, waiting for shooting spots required patience, and I am constantly learning how to better adapt to complex event lighting on site. Prop details need to be inspected beforehand, and the attachment of the tails requires continuous adjustment while walking to prevent any flaws. Every character cosplay is a fresh journey, and going forward, I will continue to deepen my understanding of character personalities while exploring better visual storytelling for future photoshoots.
