Shooting this set of photos for Zhezhi was mainly to express the character's artistic aura and relaxed vibe through the lens. Zhezhi's quiet, composed, and detached-from-the-world aura in Wuthering Waves is exactly what attracts me the most. To recreate this feeling, we made careful considerations from outfit coordination to scene setup.
First, about this costume, it's incredibly rich in layers. The white lace-trimmed halter high collar pairs with a sleeveless top design, combined with cyan-blue and pink-white color blocking, creating a look that has both the gentleness of a Chinese-style girl and a touch of modern design crispness. The most special part is the pair of separate light purple tulle sleeves. This separate design really tests the styling ability during actual shooting, but the translucent material indeed allows the arm lines to peek through under the light and shadow. When the arms naturally hang down or lift up, the sleeves create a highly dynamic and flowing effect with the movements. The edges of the lower short outfit also retain delicate white lace details, which, paired with the white glossy tights, perfectly displays the character's undefended laziness and relaxation.
In terms of hairstyle and accessories, the wide blue-and-white gradient hairband on the head is a highly iconic element, and the pink-purple gradient hair ends mixed in the black hair form a beautiful echo with the colors of the costume I'm wearing. I specially paired a thin-frame metal glasses for this look. Once worn, that intellectual and elegant temperament was instantly brought out, making her a charming meganekko. The glasses are not just a physical prop, but also a helper for expression—adjusting the glasses or looking at the camera through the lenses can reinforce the attributes of a literary character.
Regarding scene arrangement, we chose a dark wooden carved Chinese screen, paired with blooming white flowers in the background and a bamboo curtain in the foreground, creating a quiet and elegant study or courtyard vibe. To echo the character's set "artistic and literary" attributes, props like calligraphy brushes, scrolls, and scattered paper were prepared. I curled up on a wooden daybed covered with a white plush mat, barefoot, sometimes casually resting my chin with a calligraphy brush, sometimes holding a scroll and gazing ahead. This state feels much more natural and vivid than a standing pose.
During the shooting process, we intentionally avoided using overly prominent hard light and instead used a weak light source leaning toward a cool blue tone, letting the entire set of photos present a serene moonlight feel. To display the layers of this costume more comprehensively, the photographer experimented from various angles. Actually, for a character with an intellectual temperament like Zhezhi, the grasp of demeanor needs to be very restrained, without too many exaggerated expressions, yet a bit of playfulness and agility must still peek through from the gaze. Therefore, when facing the camera, I had to constantly adjust my breathing, immersing myself in her easy-going, detached, yet internally rich state.
The process of putting on and wearing the entire anime cosplay was actually quite time-consuming, especially those cascading ribbons and straps, which must be organized flawlessly to ensure a clean frame. However, seeing the final photos, combined with the lazy sitting posture and those scholar's treasures, that calm yet slightly playful temperament was successfully nailed. The state presented by this work fits my understanding of this character perfectly.
