This time, I bring you the cosplay photoshoot for "Dialyn" from Zenless Zone Zero. Regarding the shooting of this set of work, there are indeed many details I want to talk with everyone about; it is not as simple as just putting on the costume and striking a few poses.
First, let's start with the styling design of the character itself. The biggest highlight of this Dialyn look is the black-and-white two-tone wig, black on one side and white on the other, plus two large round hair buns on the top of the head with red accents, creating a very powerful visual impact. To restore this texture, a lot of effort was spent on managing the wig in the early stage, both to guarantee the roundness of the buns and the symmetry of their shapes, and to make the flow of the hair strands appear natural. For the makeup, I specially adjusted the red eyeshadow and that touch of a red dot between the eyebrows, allowing the overall facial style to fit this cold, elegant, yet slightly playful character temperament.
During the shoot, we heavily utilized real-scene props. The Chinese-style chairs, screens, crane sculptures, bamboo, and cloth banners covered in calligraphy in the background worked together to build this new Chinese-style studio setting atmosphere. My favorite is that giant circular ring prop; it's not just a decoration held in hand, but under the photographer's lens, it became a dynamic frame surrounding us. In Photo 1 and Photo 3, I used it to interact with an old-fashioned telephone. This collision of props and the scene gives a 2D flat character the breath of real life. For the semi-crouching, leaning-forward posture in Photo 5, I intentionally stretched my legs straight, letting the white stockings and black chunky-heeled Mary Jane shoes form an extension of lines. At the same time, leaning my body forward and interacting with the circular prop with my hands not only displays the costume details but also enriches the image tension.
Regarding the overall style presentation, we leaned toward bright and soft lighting. Because Dialyn's main color scheme is white and black, overly hard light could easily overexpose the white or turn the black completely dead, so area lights were used to brighten it up, allowing the wooden textures in the scene, the fabric texture of the white stockings, and the lace trim on the costume to be clearly presented. In terms of displaying elements, the white stockings and the off-the-shoulder halter design are a major feature of this costume. Therefore, regarding camera choice, I specially communicated with the photographer to add several high-angle overhead shots and side camera positions. This both preserved the cool, serene feel of the frame without making the overall look seem intentionally revealing, guaranteeing the character's elegance and recognizability.
Photo 2 and Photo 4 lean toward static sitting postures and expression displays. Sitting on the grand armchair, coordinated with the circular screen background, actually restores a lazy temperament. Instead of sitting dryly, I borrowed hand movements to gently rest on my legs or beside my cheeks, looking straight into the lens, hoping to transmit the character's confidence through the photos. To be honest, this kind of Chinese-style cosplay anime character tests both the restoration level of costumes and props, and the control over the "classical atmosphere" during shooting. The photographer's scheduling of on-site elements is crucial—whether it's the plum blossom branches peeking out from the top right corner or the scattered long scrolls of calligraphy on the floor, they both fill the empty spaces of the frame while embodying the "Chinese aesthetics."
Although the entire shooting process was quite intense because I had to maintain smooth actions while avoiding clashes between the wig and props, as well as adjusting expressions at any time, seeing the final photos makes everything feel worth it. This costume preserves the exaggerated styling characteristics of anime on a large scale while melting traditional elements like Chinese-style frog buttons and silk thread tassels into the details. Finally, under the pairing of white stockings and black shoes, it presents a very special visual style. I hope everyone can feel our ingenuity during preparation and the unique beauty of this styling itself from this set of images.
