[Firefly Cosplay] The Rainy Season and Umbrellas in Honkai: Star Rail

In the fantasy galaxy of Honkai: Star Rail, the character Firefly herself carries a deep sense of loneliness and struggle. In this custom design cosplay shoot, I hope to present her soft yet resilient side after stepping away from her combat armor. The weather that day wasn't good, but just as written in the copy, life has far too many rainy seasons, so I specifically prepared a handmade white umbrella, its ribs adorned with tiny flower petals and multiple long silk ribbons looking exceptionally lightweight in the humid air after the rain.

Instead of adopting her original grayish-white mechanical texture, this dress choice opted for a mint green and pure white lace layered Lolita style dress. The lace trim at the neckline and the fine mesh on the sleeves look very harmonious within the vibrant green hydrangea outdoor location. To coordinate with this lightweight feeling, a faint greenish-blue highlight was added to the white hair with slightly curled tips, allowing the hair's flow to visually echo the streamers in the gentle breeze. I must admit that although this umbrella looks beautiful, holding it during the shoot truly tested my arm strength; however, to embody Firefly's ease of carrying heavy weights gracefully, I still worked hard to maintain the holding posture.

Looking closely at the two photos I shared, you'll find that in the first image, I closed my eyes and slightly touched the ground with one foot, shifting my body's center of gravity backward. This pose was actually deliberately designed by me to showcase the slender leg lines between the white tights-textured socks and the thick-soled white high heels. In the rainforest environment, the wetlands and water puddles served as excellent reflective surfaces, which the photographer utilized to blend the environment's cool tones with the light colors of the clothing. The second image is more upright with eyes open, leaning closer to a moment of tranquility for the character in daily life. As a custom design cosplay, I believe it's not just about forcing a character into a random piece of clothing, but about endowing the character with personality charm under this specific context.

Many people ask me why I choose to do custom design cosplay. In fact, in the worldview of Honkai: Star Rail, living organisms have far too many variables and possibilities. I hope that Firefly, who makes people's hearts ache in the storyline, can get a brief moment of rest within the hydrangea outdoor location during this summer rainy season. This is probably the original intention behind my custom design cosplay. Rain boots or high heels stepping on the damp dirt path make a slight creaking sound, which is a completely different feeling from wearing heavy equipment. It has a bit less smoke from gunfire and a bit more tenderness belonging to flowers and raindrops.

For the choice of location and outfit coordination, I hope to convey a posture of holding one's own umbrella and moving forward even when surrounded by gloomy rain. The entire shooting process was actually very short because the rain grew heavier later, forcing us to retreat under the eaves. However, the captured moments—whether the frozen dynamic feel when spinning the streamers or the profound gaze when quietly staring into the lens—preserved the mood of this custom design cosplay beautifully. Special thanks to the photographer's patience, finely tuning the shutter speed in the low-light forest so that my well-fitted wig and skirt hem didn't look sluggish due to the weather. Although it was just a custom design cosplay shoot, standing in this humid summer as Firefly truly made me feel like I did something capable of crossing the dimensional wall.
