Climbing the mountain in this Roxy outfit was originally intended to capture that mysterious and aloof wizard feel in nature. This big hat paired with the blue twin-tail wig indeed has a very translucent visual effect under strong outdoor light. To restore the makeup, I intentionally emphasized the blush on the cheeks and the blue circle lenses, making the gaze look closer to the character's somewhat dazed yet earnest state. But reality is often much more interesting than the plan. When resting halfway up the mountain, I simply couldn't resist buying a standard scenic spot grilled sausage. As a result, just as I lifted it up ready to take a bite, I was candidly snapped by someone accompanying me. When I saw the photo, even I was shocked; that moment when my eyes lit up upon eating something delicious completely shattered the wizard persona I had worked so hard to maintain.
To me, the most important thing about cosplay is experiencing how a character reacts in different environments. Standing in front of the lush green mountains and clear waters holding a grilled sausage, this strong sense of contrast is actually much more interesting than formal, rigid posing. The details of the costume have a very clear texture under the sunlight; the white-black-yellow spliced jacket with various buttons looks full of layers in the outdoor natural light. However, the hat indeed blocks the sunlight a bit, and the field of vision is also restricted, so while eating the grilled sausage, I had to be careful not to smudge the foundation on the collar. The blue hair is actually very prone to getting messy in the wind, and after every shoot, I had to readjust the braided hair and bangs. Doing a cosplay photoshoot in a scenic spot this time was completely a special experience. There are no familiar studio lights, nor a crowded air-conditioned room, replaced instead by real sunlight and breezes. In this environment, the wig's reflection has a slightly natural luster, blending together with the background green trees and mountain ranges, creating instead an illusion of breaking the dimensional wall.
Speaking of the wearing experience of this outfit, the long sleeves and cape actually keep me quite warm in the mountains, but they also restrict the range of motion. While holding the grilled sausage, I couldn't help thinking that if Roxy really came to a place with mountains, waters, and snacks like this, she would probably make this exact shocked and curious expression. Tourists occasionally passed by; some would curiously take a second look, while others would quietly discuss which anime this was from. This feeling of bringing 2D culture into everyday scenery is extremely magical. Doing cosplay makeup and styling is indeed a meticulous job; to make the blue circle lenses look natural, the eye makeup took a long time to blend, and the blush under the eyes had to be controlled in range so it wouldn't look too dirty. Maintaining this shocked state of eating a grilled sausage in front of the lens actually tests expression management quite a bit. Every candid shot required ensuring that the position of the grilled sausage didn't block the details of the costume while simultaneously conveying that sense of surprise like discovering a new world. Although walking the mountain path was tiring and the wig was a bit stuffy, this set of photos recorded a very real and vivid moment.
I also paid special attention to the metal buckles and strap details on the clothing; in the outdoor with plenty of sunshine, these metal accessories reflect light, adding a lot of texture to the frame. The black-white-yellow-blue color scheme stands out exceptionally against the green grass. In fact, doing outdoor activities wearing a big hat, the biggest worry is that the wind is too strong and blows the hat away, or the wig gets hooked by tree branches. Fortunately, although the weather was clear that day, the wind speed was still relatively gentle. While taking photos holding the grilled sausage, the oily sheen of the sausage reflected a bit in the sunlight, which can also be considered an unexpected fun point. Many people think cosplay requires putting on airs and maintaining the character's aloofness, but I feel that pulling the character into everyday scenes filled with human warmth actually makes the character become more three-dimensional and cute. This is also why I love exploring various shooting angles in natural environments. Looking back in the future, it won't just be the beautiful scenery, but also that scenic spot grilled sausage that made me lose control of my expression management. As an outdoor cosplay attempt, this experience made me enjoy the fun of unexpected encounters even more, and also made me look forward to the next time I take a character to experience different life scenes.
