The concept phase of this summer-exclusive studio scene at HoYo Wonderful House already got me super excited, and we immediately locked in the Summer swimsuit look of Kuromi Serika from Blue Archive. The overall blue and white color scheme perfectly fits the refreshing feeling of summer. The set design incorporated a large amount of real props, such as this blue-and-white striped stall awning and wooden beach chair, coupled with an inflatable swim ring and foam faux coconut trees, turning a corner of the studio into a seaside vacation wonderland.
\Highly reflective film and an inflatable pool were laid on the ground. Coordinated with the live lighting, they successfully simulated a shimmering water surface effect, which not only visually elevated the depth of the frames but also made the overall color tone of this Anime cosplay photo set look more translucent.
The essence of Kuromi Serika lies in her classic tsundere trait and gap moe. Therefore, when making expressions, I deliberately avoided standard sweet smiles. Instead, I maintained a bit of distance and used slightly cool micro-expressions, which, combined with the inherent casualness of the swimsuit, perfectly captured the character's raw authenticity while relaxing.
The second photo is the one I find most satisfying in terms of composition. Sitting in the pool with watermelons, cold drink props, and a lifebuoy in front, it will be perfect as high-quality material once a bit of color grading is applied in post-processing.
The entire shooting process was actually very interesting since I had to frequently interact with props, like holding up a huge lifebuoy or placing my feet by the edge of the pool, which also demanded a certain amount of tension in body movements. Even though it's a static studio project, carefully capturing and conveying the character's vivid emotion—being a bit helpless against the summer heat yet still thoroughly enjoying herself—required serious contemplation.
This shoot not only set a high standard for prop arrangements but also served as a great test of my personal condition. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of bringing an anime character into a real-life studio for these Studio behind-the-scenes memories.
