From deciding to do this uniform to finally wrapping up the shoot in the ruins set, the entire process took considerably more effort and thought than I had anticipated. Outfits with pronounced military elements demand not only crisp tailoring, but also careful planning to prevent all the intricate accessories from looking cluttered before the camera. The costume primarily utilizes a blue-and-white color palette; the inner white shirt features fine pinstripes, paired with a necktie at the collar and metallic buttons on the chest pockets—details that severely test how neatly the garments are pressed and fitted. The outer blue cropped vest and detached sleeves clearly define the shoulder silhouette and arm movements. The gold horizontal bands on the armbands and cuffs enhance the tactical, functional aesthetic while seamlessly echoing the color of the tie. The naval-inspired cap with white piping and the black tactical gloves are also crucial components of the character's persona, requiring constant micro-adjustments in angle to avoid looking overly bulky.
The shooting location was a heavy-industrial ruin—strewn with ground pipelines, scratched metal plates, a yellow-and-black hazard canister, tires, and adjacent mechanical props in the background—delivering a thoroughly hardcore Sci-fi wasteland style aesthetic. For lighting, we deliberately employed high-contrast red and blue lights. Because the floor and set were packed with scattered elements, flat lighting would have made the frame look overly chaotic. The beauty of red and blue light lies in using side-rim and bottom fill lights to cleanly carve the subject out from the backdrop. In particular, the red light falling across the sheer, glossy Black tights outfit generated a distinctive reflective sheen that enriched the highlights and shadows along the legs, keeping them vibrant and dimensional.
In terms of posing and expressions, I consciously avoided exaggerated actions, as the character's inherent demeanor leans heavily toward calm and composure. Whether extending my legs while seated or reaching up to grasp overhead structures while standing, I strived to keep my posture upright and poised. Having played NIKKE for quite a while, that sensation of being surrounded by wasteland and machinery in Goddess of Victory: New Hope was tangibly brought to life in this real-world set. Although the surroundings looked weathered and messy, the camera's spatial compression and controlled color lighting produced a striking sense of order within sci-fi ruins.
The true challenge of this styling wasn't whether the costume looked pretty, but how to ensure the subject remained clean and prominent amidst such an intricate, prop-heavy wasteland environment. It required blocking distracting foreground elements while leveraging ambient lights and props to build narrative depth. For instance, in the semi-reclined pose on the floor in Photo 3, I had to ensure my legs were elegantly stretched out without exposing any wardrobe flaws, while the adjacent mechanical racks and debris served as visual leading lines directing the viewer's eyes straight onto the character. Wearing a dense wig and complex gear throughout the Cosplay photography session was exhausting, but seeing the final imagery capture that signature atmosphere made every adjustment and lighting test worthwhile. Each time the photos came out, it felt like stepping right onto that battlefield—a truly immersive creative experience.
