[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] Touhou Project Fan-made Azure Spirit Dream White Studio Pose Reference Photoshoot

This set of photos for the fan-made Azure Spirit Dream design is finally ready! This variation breaks away from the traditional shrine maiden outfit, opting for a cooler and more lightweight style. For this shoot, we utilized a minimalist white studio setup at Beijing 103 Studio, aiming to highlight the layers of the outfit itself through a simple background.

Regarding outfit details, the top features an off-the-shoulder design with red, yellow, blue, and white multicolored tassels at the collar, adding a splash of visual interest to the cool-toned blue and white palette. The waist features a midriff-baring design. Paired with a wide ruffled hemline, it requires keeping a good balance in overall body proportions. The hair accessory worn during the shoot was a folded ruffled bow, which echoed beautifully with the detached sleeves on the shoulders. The wig retained the classic straight bangs and long sidelocks on both sides to stay close to the character's designated vibe. For shoes and accessories, I chose a pair of black platform chunky-heeled sandals paired with white crew socks; this sense of contrast fits perfectly with the slightly eclectic style of fan-made designs. The staff prop in my hand was self-assembled and modified. I used dry tree branches for the frame, wrapping it with white fabric flowers and cotton ropes, with fine details of withered twigs added to give it a naturally growing appearance. I also attached some pine cones and dry leaves to enhance its rustic, natural vibe.

We didn't interfere much with the studio setup—just simple white walls paired with a bamboo hanging scroll in the background, and dried branches and green plant ornaments on both sides. The lighting utilized cool-toned diffused light, mainly coming from two softboxes on the left and right, with a fill light in the front to brighten up the face. The advantage of this setup is that it eliminates unwanted shadows on the face, maintaining a cool and transparent atmosphere in the overall frame.

During the shoot, to find suitable pose references, I cooperated with the photographer to adjust several different poses. These included dynamic single-leg jumps as well as static sitting-and-resting poses, aiming to express a light, ethereal sense of movement in the frame. The material of this fan-made outfit is inherently lightweight, so when raising my arms or turning around, the ruffles on the hem and cuffs would flutter naturally. Not much retouching was done in post-processing to preserve the clean look of the white studio.

For this Touhou Project fan-made design, it actually deconstructs the form of the outfit while retaining the character's core features, giving a sense of both familiarity and novelty when worn. When styling this look, the focus was on balancing a cool, aloof vibe with detailed refinement—especially the hair luster and lip color, which shouldn't be too distracting but should harmonize with the minimalist aesthetic of the outfit. In the entire set, several sitting poses show my legs stretching out comfortably, giving the photos a relaxed tone that fits the overall mood of the shoot. Because the staff prop is quite long, I had to find the center of gravity beforehand when shooting jumping actions. Jumping on one leg required special attention to weight shifting, but fortunately, the material wasn't too heavy, so I could still maintain my body structure during wide movements without looking stiff.

Overall, the shoot for this set of photos went quite smoothly. The key was to accurately convey Azure Spirit Dream's cool, dynamic, yet anime-style charm. Big thanks to the photographer, Lanqiao, for capturing these beautiful moments in our cosplay photography session.
