Heavily Retouched Convention Reality and Real Exhaustion at Firefly Expo - Image 2

The sheer intensity of this Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo was through the roof. The very first thing I did after getting back to the hotel today was collapsing straight onto the bed, with every single joint in my body screaming in protest. While physical exhaustion is definitely real, the genuine sense of fulfillment is equally undeniable.

Due to immense crowd density and high temperatures inside the venue, I had to wake up early in the morning for lengthy makeup and hair preparations. The wig this time was quite heavy, with pink hair strands showing strong reflectivity under indoor lights; just applying hair wax and hairspray to keep hair strands organized took a substantial amount of time. For the ears, elf ear prosthetic attachments were used; to seamlessly blend them with my natural skin tone, I had to gently pat foundation onto the edges bit by bit, then secure them with adhesive glue to ensure they wouldn't fall off during a long day of running around. The face makeup required equal effort; I deliberately raised foundation coverage because Guangzhou's weather is extremely hot and humid, where sweating easily ruins makeup, so multiple layers of setting spray and loose powder were applied before stepping outdoors. Light pink eyeshadow was selected to echo the hair color, paired with softened eyebrow contours to render an overall stylized, Anime-style fashion aesthetic.

The costume design presented extreme challenges. Though rigid white structured materials molded the silhouette nicely, breathability was severely compromised. The collar tailoring at the neck was intriguing, balancing geometric structure with open space, which layered beautifully with the inner blue bowtie. Waist straps sculpted my body lines, while lightweight white fabric drapes added to the sleeves created a flowing effect when walking, giving static photos a touch of dynamic vitality. Lace trimmings and mesh fabric paneling on the skirt hem flattered leg contours and looked exceptionally graceful gliding through the convention hall; however, maintaining proper posture to keep the outfit looking crisp demanded immense physical stamina.

Holding three beverage cups during the shoot was out of pure necessity to replenish hydration on site. Busy all morning, sugar and water levels in my body depleted rapidly, making these three drinks a lifesaving supply; holding them in hand for a quick snap ended up being today's most vivid moment. Another close-up shot captured taking off my sunglasses and resting them atop my head; to achieve a crisp, clear image state, post-processing required considerable effort to refine light, shadows, and facial contours. Many Convention photos seen on social media look flawlessly exquisite; this heavily retouched photography style isn't about hiding anything, but rather about transforming one's 2D presence into a more powerful character portrayal on a 2D plane. After all, convention lighting is chaotic and filled with passersby, making post-processing necessary to clean up unwanted color casts and harsh shadows.

Many people assume cosplayers at conventions only experience glamorous moments, but behind the scenes lie 4 AM vanity tables, backs soaked in sweat, and constant cautious adjustments to avoid wardrobe malfunctions. With virtually no seating in rest areas, most breaks consisted of squatting in corners or leaning against pillars for a brief breather. Yet, as I walked past booths and saw passersby or fans holding up phones and DSLRs to greet me, that interactive enthusiasm instantly washed away all fatigue.

Beyond taking photos today, I met many friends wearing equally magnificent outfits. We exchanged tips on wig maintenance and makeup application; social connections forged through shared passions are truly precious. Walking in this full gear all day left blisters on my soles, and my first priority upon returning to the hotel was unclasping the waist corset to breathe freely. Although these photos underwent heavily retouched photography to appear flawless, this authentic fatigue and sense of accomplishment can only be truly understood by those who personally experienced the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo.

Looking back at today's photos, great angles were captured, and the elf ear accessories added rich layers to the overall styling. Reflecting on this day, despite draining immense energy, it was completely worth every second. After organizing today's shots, I just want to wash up, apply a sheet mask, and soothe my aching muscles, looking forward to keeping up this full energy tomorrow. Though tired enough to fall apart, dedicating time and energy to pure passion delivers results that never disappoint, with the convention atmosphere serving as the best backdrop for these photos.
