[Shangguan Wan'er cosplay] Tianlang Dream Painter Ult-Fail Daily Life: Getting a City Badge is So Hard!

Today, I put on this Tianlang Dream Painter outfit, wore my silver-white wig with highlights, and prepared to take some casual cosplay photos at home. But as I was shooting, my mind was entirely filled with the Honor of Kings match I had just played—my ultimate cut off in mid-air again, pushing me further and further away from getting that city badge. Many friends ask me why my Wan'er looks so cute yet can't get a city badge. Is it really just because I don't know how to 'fly'? I have to say, wanting to 'fly' steadily in real life requires just as much technique and muscle memory as it does in the game.

Actually, if you look at the in-game screenshot in my post, my stats aren't bad at all in terms of matches played and win rate, but I'm always just one step away from that city badge. Normally when playing Wan'er, the feeling of rushing in and executing a full ultimate combo is incredibly satisfying. But once you fail the ult, it's an immediate 'damn it' moment, and you can only wait to respawn. For this photoshoot, I specifically brought out this black-and-blue short blade prop. It's the character's signature item, and holding it while posing naturally makes me channel her sharp, dashing aura.

From a cosplay accuracy standpoint, this outfit is truly stunning. The upper half features a black tight crop top under a semi-transparent pink jacket with wide flowing sleeves, adorned with an eye-catching purple wave pattern at the cuffs. The white webbing and metal buckles at the waist add a lot of tactical techwear vibes, making the outfit look structured and powerful. The lower half consists of a black pleated skirt paired with white thigh-highs, and that long black sash printed with abstract gold patterns adds fantastic layering and texture on camera. The combination of the white thigh-highs outfit and short skirt visually elongates my legs, giving a casual, relaxed look when sitting down.

The shooting process was also a lot of fun. I simply laid out a white shaggy rug at home against a backdrop of natural wood beams and dark grey bedding. This cozy home setting is actually perfect for capturing photos with a strong daily life feel. The orange tabby cat in the photos is my pet; during the second shot, it completely ignored my existence and curled up on the rug fast asleep, accidentally photobombing the shot and becoming the ultimate spotlight-stealer of the set. Swinging my prop blade against the wooden frames behind me made for a very natural background composition.

Although these photos use some soft-focus filters along the edges for post-processing, this was an intentional choice to create a dreamy, atmospheric vibe, rather than making the images look too sharp and forced. The wig is a blend of silver-white and light blue, with a very soft texture, and it doesn't feel heavy even with the headpiece on. In cosplay, the most important thing is your mindset—you have to feel the character's spirit and attitude. Even if I fail my ult in-game and constantly get ganked by the enemy team, the moment I put on this outfit and hold my prop, I am that independent Shangguan Wan'er flying across the Canyon. Standing tall with that aura and capturing the design essence of the outfit makes this a highly satisfying experience.

I hope to keep up this love for Shangguan Wan'er. Maybe when my proficiency increases, getting that city badge will just come naturally. Being a cosplayer in real life is just like being a player in a game—both require patience and practice. These photos represent my current state: looking the part on the outside, while on the inside, I'm just a little Wan'er who desperately wants a city badge but is constantly on the verge of failing her ultimate.
