This batch of convention photos explores a wide array of stylistic approaches. Due to spatial constraints at the Beijing venue (IJOY), we mostly had to shoot with crushed, darkened backgrounds, which happened to complement more imposing, high-presence looks. In more spacious halls, we boldly experimented with both high-contrast ratio lighting and flat lighting. High-contrast setups truly test garment dimensionality and facial contours, whereas flat lighting straightforwardly preserves authentic skin texture and canonical fabric colors, proving far friendlier to delicate makeup nuances. The collaboration with my photography partner went seamlessly. He wielded a Canon EOS R5 Mark II paired with RF 24-70mm f/2.8, RF 70-200mm f/2.8 Z, and RF 16mm f/2.8 lenses—effortlessly handling everything from the dynamic tension of ultra-wide angles to telephoto compression. Because convention ambient lighting is notoriously messy, light placement was paramount. We brought 6 speedlights/strobes, 4 continuous lights, and inflatable tube lights; this lighting kit proved phenomenal for anime-style photography at conventions, whether crushing ambient backgrounds to pop the subject or using continuous lights for fill. To capture high-energy dynamic moments, we brought dedicated assistants to fluff hemlines and toss props; without their support, challenging kicks, jumps, and low floor-reclining poses would have been impossible. The shoot was physically exhausting—navigating crowded convention halls in intricate costumes while maintaining peak form before the lens—yet seeing the raw previews instantly made every ounce of effort worthwhile. In post-production, my workflow typically delivers raw selections the very same day for a quick first look. For color grading, unless specified otherwise, I keep adjustments clean and natural. For glow VFX, AI thick-paint face retouching, CG facial refinement, or AI semi-compositing, prior communication is needed due to the heavy workload, though my standard is to return finished edits within 72 hours. Video production was another core highlight: using a DJI RS 4 gimbal with a DJI Pocket 3 and action cams yielded silky smooth camera movements. I keep a sharp eye on trending video formats, flexibly arranging beat-synced cuts, atmospheric tracking shots, or humorous skits on the fly. Working with experienced creators always sparks great creative chemistry. Overall, this release merges the delicate refinement of stills with the lively fun of video; convention photography is strenuous, but the resulting visual payoff delivers immense fulfillment.
