This photoshoot of Elysia under the night sakura actually took quite a while to prepare. From adjusting the tailoring of the costume to matching the props, a lot of work went into refining the details. Today, I can finally organize the complete photos and share them with everyone.
Looking back at this character, Elysia holds a very special vibe in my heart. She isn't just gentle; she possesses a composure and determination hidden beneath her exquisite appearance. Especially in her Elysia - Herrscher of Human: Ego form, the costume incorporates many elements I personally love, such as the large areas of contrasting white and purple, combined with the metallic-textured trim on the cuffs and collar, and that layer of holographic laser fabric that shimmers with an iridescent glow under specific lighting. Together, they create an ethereal divinity while retaining a young girl's charm. To prevent the outfit from looking too bulky, I repeatedly adjusted the waist-cinching design and the puffiness of the sleeves to ensure a crisp, well-defined silhouette. The sharp tailoring stands out with a stronger sense of contour when the flash hits directly at night.
Another highlight is the bell staff in my hands. With its heart and wing shapes, golden bells, and flowing tassels, it looks incredibly dreamy at first glance, but it is actually very heavy to hold. During the shoot, the weight of the prop itself posed a challenge for the poses—you have to hold it steadily while maintaining an effortless, relaxed demeanor. I even experimented with a low-angle placement for the staff, like the slanted, close-up pose shown in the photos. This not only blends the lines of the prop with the body but also prevents the visual focus from shifting entirely to the top of the staff, which might otherwise cause people to overlook the layers of the main costume.
Regarding the environment for this night sakura photography, the interplay of light and shadow on night cherry blossoms is incredibly charming but also very difficult to control. With pink blossoms in the background, a completely black backdrop would make the image look flat, but if the lighting is too diffused, the flowers become totally blurred. This time, we decisively opted for a harsher direct front flash combined with a darker ambient background. This high-contrast lighting layout beautifully accentuated the three-dimensional feel of the costume, the texture of the skin, and the delicateness of the facial features. Since white and purple clothing is prone to overexposure under a flash, I carefully controlled the aperture and shutter speed to preserve the details of the outfit, bringing out that subtle, shimmering glow on the cuffs.
As for the expressions and poses, I wanted to convey "gentleness in fleeting moments." In the first photo, I intentionally softened my gaze and smiled slightly, crossing my hands to create a confident yet approachable and defenseless sense of intimacy. In the moment of closing my eyes and looking down, I slowed my breathing, completely immersing myself in the quiet atmosphere to match the character's calm softness. Many minor movements were actually improvised on set—such as how my fingers naturally rested on the cuffs or how the curve of my hair fell over my shoulders. Capturing these fine details often closes the distance to the character much better than a rigid, upright pose.
Creating an atmosphere is never achieved by a single costume alone; it requires the overlapping layers of costume, props, shooting environment, expressions, body language, and even one's understanding of the character. I hope these images can convey that delicate gentleness of Elysia I felt to all of you.
