This time shooting Maomao's cosplay from The Apothecary Diaries, I made some special adjustments in terms of makeup, styling, and shooting concepts. The most attractive thing about Maomao is her sense of contrast: she appears calm, rational, and even a bit expressionless on the surface, but in reality, her brain is constantly running at high speed. To show this feeling in the photos, I focused on depicting the cool and detached look of the eyes in my makeup. The eyeshadow was chosen in a cool-toned earthy palette, paired with a vibrant red lip color, keeping the expression in a restrained and observational state. The false eyelashes weren't pasted too exaggeratedly, leaning instead towards a natural, slender look to highlight the sharpness of the gaze. As for the hairstyle, Maomao's iconic green hair and the hair ornaments on top of the head both required careful grooming. I trimmed and styled the wig multiple times to make the hair strands look natural without appearing overly heavy. The decoration on top of the head was also repeatedly adjusted in angle and fixed with hairspray to ensure it presented that lively feel under the lens without looking rigid. In terms of clothing, this green-and-white traditional-style outfit has a classic color scheme, and the main green tone fits her identity as an apothecary. The long red ribbon around the waist is the finishing touch, creating a graceful, flowing feel when walking. The tailoring of the inner collar and the outerwear cuffs both required careful wearing to ensure the garment fits the body shape well. When shooting in the garden, I deliberately chose to frame the view through a circular moon gate, using framing composition to make the subject the absolute visual focal point of the frame. The greenery outside the gate and the gray-white wall inside formed a great contrast. Sunlight spilled onto my body through the leaves, and the mottled light and shadows added a sense of layering to the frame. We waited a long time for the light during the shoot; this natural side-backlighting was able to outline the character's silhouette very well while making the clothing's texture more pronounced. In terms of action and gaze portrayal, I didn't do too many exaggerated poses, but instead tried to keep my body straight and my hands naturally lifting the hem of the skirt. This action not only showcases the wrinkles of the clothing but also matches Maomao's usual crisp and neat behavior style. The photographer's lens captured the best moment of light, and that serene atmosphere fits the character's traits very well. Many people think about how to look more attractive when doing cosplay, but for Maomao, introversion and focus are her greatest charms. Through this clothing matching and scene integration, I feel like I've shown the character's subtle thoughts of quietly conducting research and occasionally being a bit sly or mischievous. Both the texture of the wig and the drape of the clothes needed attention during the shoot; natural postures combined with suitable lighting can better present the work. The visual impact of the red belt and the green skirt hem is very strong, and during post-processing color grading, I deliberately strengthened this contrast to make the colors of the frame more vivid. Overall, this refinement in details gave me a deeper understanding of the character, and I hope to pass this understanding on to those who see the photos.
