[Maomao cosplay] The Apothecary Diaries: Green-Haired Little Apothecary, Where the Round Fan Prop Meets Traditional Style Hanfu Skirts

Presenting this finished cosplay shoot for Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries. Great care went into styling and aesthetics: to stay true to her character design, I chose an emerald Green wig with blunt bangs, styling the crown into symmetrical dual buns pinned with golden floral filigree, while twin low pigtails threaded with pastel pink-and-green beads draped beside the cheeks, matched with vibrant blue contacts and soft pink-toned eye makeup. For the wardrobe, I chose a richly layered Traditional style Hanfu ensemble: a sheer pink wide-sleeved robe woven with damask jacquard drapes over a light-green cross-collar blouse and deep plum-wine skirt. The sash is anchored by a large pink blossom cinched with long pale-green silk ribbons for visual division. The wide-sleeved robe exhibits a delicate sheen in the sunlight, its broad cuffs yielding wonderful flow and kinetic grace during movement. Gold floral earrings and a necklace dangling a green pendant rounded out the ornate accessories.

For props, I prepared a petal-shaped Round fan prop embroidered with white animals and pink blooms, finished with a white silk tassel hanging from the handle that echoed the wardrobe palette. I also brought a thread-bound book to shoot a playful scene balancing it atop my head. The outdoor location was scouted in a traditional courtyard framed by wooden lattice screens and winding cloisters, where reddish-brown floor tiles and dark timber pillars naturally highlighted the subject. During shooting, I explored varied stances—gesturing overhead with both hands, leaning across a wooden bench while teasingly veiling my face behind the fan, and resting casually along stone steps with legs dangling. In the seated step pose, the skirt flared out naturally to tease the white petticoat and embroidered flats underneath, creating a relaxed silhouette that showcased leg lines and skirt hem tiers. Ample daylight filtered across the corridor, casting soft shadow gradations. Through shallow depth of field, the background foliage and architecture blurred smoothly, keeping compositional layers crisp. From preening the wig fibers to layering each garment and designing every posture, the goal was embodying a lively, spirited character grounded in everyday reality. Collaborating closely with the photographer on composition, we alternated between full-body sweeps and bust close-ups to showcase the billowing silk skirts and sleeves. To animate the fan within the frame, wrist tilts and eye-lines were subtly recalibrated with each click. Given the wig's substantial weight, pauses were taken to reset the bangs and buns to maintain pristine styling. The outfit's saturated pink-and-green contrast popped radiantly under outdoor natural light, needing minimal color grading in post. Light-hued embroidered shoes matched the ancient attire seamlessly. Through dynamic prop handling and deliberate choreography, the finished imagery faithfully captured the character's everyday life in a classical imperial setting.
