While preparing this look, I kept wondering what a JK version of Apothecary Maomao would feel like. Ultimately, I settled on this dark green twintail wig, paired with a short sailor-collar JK uniform and a matching pleated skirt, layered with black tights to extend the overall visual proportions downward. The original intention behind choosing this outfit was to retain the traits of the character's original setting while injecting a slice-of-life atmosphere closer to modern everyday life.
For the first close-up, I specially added a couple of sketched cat-ear lines over my head. Paired with the light blue contact lenses and clear eye makeup, that iconic sense of cleverness instantly emerged. When posing, I deliberately chose the sitting action in Image 2 that shows the arm muscles flexing, aiming to create a gap moe contrast. The action of pulling the braids in Image 3 appears more relaxed, visually displaying the texture and drape of the plaited pigtails in this casual cosplay log.
The shooting environment was just my own room, where the air conditioner cover in the background, the figures on the shelves, and the red-and-white mushroom lamp happened to recreate an authentic ACGN bedroom atmosphere. To unify the color tone, the overall lighting was primarily kept soft, ensuring that the dark green clothing didn't look dull in the frame but rather formed a wonderful echo with the blue eyes. The makeup focused primarily on the contrast between the eyes and the lip color, keeping the base clean and translucent to emphasize the skin texture under natural light. Dispensing with heavy soft-focus filters actually allows the fiber texture of the wig and the fabric wrinkles of the clothing to be seen more clearly.
Before finalizing this output, I had actually pondered several sets of poses in my mind, but ultimately relied primarily on candid snapshots in the most casual state. This kind of indoor selfie actually heavily tests one's control over the character. Lacking the enhancement of many props and outdoor sets, one must rely entirely on facial expressions and movement details to convey personality. Coincidentally, Maomao's charm lies precisely in this characteristic of appearing slightly aloof on the outside but intensely focused on the inside.
When taking full-body photos, I paid special attention to the position and angle of holding the phone, trying my best not to block my face while allowing the pigtail braids and sailor collar to have a clear presentation in the frame. Personally, I feel that this visual form, which is akin to a casual snapshot, instead carries a state of genuine ACGN sharing with friends, looking much more natural than over-contrived posing.
Looking back at the photos, I am quite satisfied with the overall effect, especially since the color of the wig and the tone of the clothing in the photos match perfectly. The pattern of this outfit is relatively form-fitting; the linear decorations of the sailor collar make the upper body look sharper, and the flare of the pleated skirt makes the leg lines look highly coordinated wrapped in the black tights.
Since I love cosplay, presenting a beloved character in a way that feels comfortable to me brings immense joy. From selecting the wig to adjusting the makeup, every step counts as my own understanding of this character. This record serves as a highly personalized ACGN life archive, and counts as an attempt to pull Apothecary Maomao out of the anime and into real life. Although it is just a simple indoor set, being able to take clean, highly recognizable photos has already achieved the effect I wanted.
