[Saigyouji Yuyuko cosplay] Touhou Project's ghost princess of the Netherworld's Hakugourou

This photoshoot for Saigyouji Yuyuko involved a very tedious preparation process for costumes and props, but it was also full of fun. The overall color tone of this outfit is intertwined with light blue and white, blending elements of Japanese style and Lolita. The top features a large amount of white lace and pleats, and I specially adjusted the off-the-shoulder design of the neckline, matched with red crisscross straps on the chest, hoping to restore the character's gorgeous and lightweight traits. The wide cuffs feature exquisite butterfly and floral prints, with lace trimmed along the edges, fluttering slightly when walking.

The soft cap on the head is the focal point of the entire styling, with light blue ruffles stacked layer upon layer, adorned with multiple blue butterfly hair accessories. Paired with pink blunt-bangs short hair and pink-toned contact lenses, the makeup was kept as clean as possible, focusing on the innocent feel of the eye makeup and the light pink blush on the cheeks, while a reddish tint was used on the lips to enhance the complexion, making the overall state look both girlishly charming and capable of reflecting the dust-free tranquility of the Netherworld princess.

To match this styling, we chose an authentic Japanese indoor scene. The laid tatami mats, wooden grid shoji doors, and pink cherry blossom branches placed in the background successfully created the atmosphere. During the shoot, the lighting designer specially treated the light, casting a soft warm light on the wooden doors, while using cool-toned lighting to brighten my face and the blue details on the costume, forming a contrast between warm and cool tones, making the frame look more translucent.

In terms of props, we prepared a red and black folding fan, a blue and white oiled-paper umbrella, and black tea sets. In the shot where I hold the folding fan to half-cover my face, I wanted to convey a hint of the character's mysterious aura. Sitting on the tatami with legs naturally extended forward and the skirt spread out, this sitting posture not only showcased the gorgeousness of the clothing, but also added a touch of everyday realism through white short socks. While holding an object resembling a kiseru (pipe) and looking into the mirror, I tried to empty my gaze, experiencing the unique nihilism and detachment of a "ghost."

The entire shooting process was a precise control over the lens. Facing the camera, I needed to keep my upper body straight, but relax my shoulders and slightly tuck in my chin to present the best neck line. Sometimes I needed to look up slightly at the cherry blossoms, and other times turn my face to focus on the direction of the props in my hand. Due to its layers upon layers, wearing this costume tested patience greatly, but the effect presented in front of the lens was truly satisfying. Butterfly elements ran through the entire styling, resembling phantoms fluttering gracefully in the Netherworld's Hakugourou. The character's setting itself carries a romance transcending life and death; I made my action designs as soft as possible, whether toying with the folding fan or gazing into the distance, trying to fully immerse myself in this worldview. The venue setup immersed me deeply, making me feel as if I were truly in that courtyard full of blooming cherry blossoms. Without overly exaggerated performances, just standing quietly there was enough to convey the beauty of the costume itself. After the shooting was completed, looking at the photos filled with light and shadow textures in the camera, it felt like all the early preparations were worth it.
