These convention shots feature Ichinose Asuna's Gymnastics uniform from Blue Archive, and prep went remarkably smoothly. The wig is long, straight light blonde hair; the bangs and sidelocks required precise trimming to frame the face naturally while keeping the lengths sleek and untangled. To recreate her iconic heterochromia, I selected blue and red colored contact lenses, which immediately transformed the overall demeanor once worn. The blue halo prop resembling a crosshair reticle atop the head was a centerpiece of the styling—bringing it into the convention hall sparked constant worry of bumps, and posing required vigilance over angles to keep it looking seamless.
The outfit consists of a fitted blue short-sleeved tee paired with a matching pleated mini skirt, with a jacket tied around the waist to create a unified color scheme that popped brilliantly in the exhibition hall. While it looks distinctly athletic, the form-fitting cut is demanding on posture, so I consciously kept my core braced to maintain an upright, poised carriage. On my feet were black crew socks and white sneakers, creating a striking contrast with the blue garments that enriched the compositional depth. The convention hall floor was rather slick, and moving in rigid-soled sneakers demanded extra care—especially in crouching poses where shifting center of gravity needed tight control so the skirt didn't crease excessively.
Gear-wise, we ran a Sony a7M4 paired with a Tamron 35-100mm lens—an incredibly versatile focal range for crowded conventions, allowing comfortable distances for half-body portraits while zooming in easily for close-up details. The photographer and I coordinated poses extensively across these three setups. The first, sitting on the floor with a finger to my lips in a "shh" gesture, aimed for a playful, slightly spunky attitude, where finger grip on the water bottle was key to keep it steady. The second pose, dropping onto one knee with both arms raised overhead, required substantial physical extension: opening arm angles wide was crucial to convey dynamic tension, and I focused on keeping my spine and core braced straight. The third shot, standing with a hand on my hip holding the water bottle, focused on displaying the overall silhouette and leg lines; angling the stance with weight planted onto one leg visually elongated my height.
Convention lighting is typically chaotic with heavy downlights, so we sought out spots with even, diffused illumination free from harsh direct glare. The overall takeaway is that this Gymnastics uniform translated even better in person than expected, its crisp blue harmonizing with the cool-toned hall ambiance. As a cosplayer, collaborating with the photographer is paramount—calibrating body angles and using props to naturally anchor hand placement are skills refined with every con shoot. The resulting images feature soft lighting and clean background bokeh that accentuate the subject, capturing authentic convention energy while maintaining high visual quality. I am truly delighted with how they turned out.
