Shooting Surtr cosplay in a wedding dress at Joy City today went much smoother compared to previous sessions. The core of this styling lay in securing the wig and the horns. The red hair required a voluminous, lifted crown, with the bangs trimmed into layered sections that contour the face while keeping the flow of the hair strands natural. The black pointed horn props feature subtle red accents; to make sure they stayed put throughout a full day of shooting, I reinforced the bases with bobby pins and clear straps, gaining valuable experience in keeping props secure during convention and event shoots.
The wedding dress leaned toward an intricately crafted, heavy-embellishment style—an off-the-shoulder cut layered with generous lace, silver embroidery, and shimmering sequins that gave it substantial weight. The rhinestone necklace and long drop earrings perfectly complemented the open neckline. The veil, made of sheer tulle adorned with pearls and butterfly accents, caught distinct visual layers against the soft pink backdrop. I deliberately added silver chain accessories at the waist, creating shifting glints of light as the voluminous gown swayed with movement.
Handling the props was another major focus during the shoot. The black polearm weapon was rather large, requiring precise wrist angling to keep movements crisp while making sure it didn't snag the delicate bridal train. In the second and fourth shots, I held the curved yellow prop (or bow frame); to expand composition possibilities, we experimented with looking back over the shoulder, pointing the weapon forward with both hands, and resting it behind my head one-handed.
The venue's lighting blended softly with the pink backdrop cloth, and the overhead lights were carefully angled to prevent harsh shadows, making today's shoot exceptionally efficient. In truth, the biggest challenge when shooting in this wedding dress cosplay was navigating between setups—the heavy gown and polearm required constant tidying, all while watching the placement of the black horns and veil. Although the venue provided light stands and ample shooting space, every swing of the prop demanded core stability to sustain dynamic tension.
The lighting and backdrop setup at Joy City aligned perfectly with what we envisioned for this bridal theme, and with the photographer's solid guidance on poses, I am very pleased with today's photo success rate. The striking contrast between a bridal gown and dark weaponry delivered powerful visual impact through the lens.
