This photoshoot was completed by combining the character styling of Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion with a holiday Christmas cosplay theme.
For the costume, I selected a red-and-white dress trimmed with thick white plush fur around the neckline, cuffs, and hem. Underneath, I wore white tights layered with white knit slouch socks, paired with black glossy platform leather shoes. The wig featured Asuka's classic reddish-orange twin tails complete with red hair clips. To echo the holiday vibe, I also added white plush cuffs on the wrists. The color combination of the dress and stockings preserved the character's iconic elements while delivering a cozy winter feel.
The shooting location was an indoor corner with warm lighting, next to a Christmas tree decorated with silver-white baubles, stars, and bead garlands, with a khaki camping chair placed underneath. During the shoot, I sat on the chair with one hand resting under my chin and the other draped naturally beside my leg, quietly looking into the camera. The photographer dedicated significant effort to fine-tuning the lighting angles so that the white stockings and plush materials retained authentic textures under the warm glow without overexposing or losing details. The leg lines appeared sleeker wrapped in the long socks.
The cosplay photography process was quite relaxed because the costume itself was warm and the indoor heating was sufficient, keeping my condition at its best. During makeup, I accentuated the eye contours with a soft reddish tint at the outer corners to enhance the gaze, bringing out a tsundere yet youthful charm. I paid special attention to arranging the dress hem so the sitting posture wouldn't create awkward wrinkles while naturally accentuating leg proportions. The wig was also combed multiple times to ensure natural curves in the twin tails.
The background wall was a warm beige, decorated with a painting of two black cats with a subtle reflection on the left. The warm yellow light illuminated the red outfit and white stockings, creating a harmonious, cozy, and gentle visual tone. After shooting several close-ups from different angles, we ultimately selected this seated set. This composition nicely balances the proportion between the subject and the Christmas tree, expressing a relaxed holiday indolence. The silver bead garlands caught the light nicely as foreground accents. The final images preserved skin texture while highlighting the plush trim details.
This shoot was a fresh attempt with a classic character, bringing a 2D character into a realistic Christmas setting with subtle adjustments for real-world staging. The combination of red and white stood out brilliantly on a winter night. The final results successfully achieved my desired effect in costume details, atmosphere, and character presence.
