The schedule from August 7 to 9 has long been listed at the very top of my memo. Attending the 3rd Black Dragonfly Anime Convention as Aemeath is my most thoroughly prepared photoshoot and offline event recently. Submitting the complete free pass application today serves as a nice summary of my recent preparations.
Let's start with the styling prep. While Aemeath's costume looks simple, staying cool while remaining accurate in Guangzhou's hot weather required careful adjustments to the fabric and cut. A pure white short-sleeved T-shirt accented with dark blue collar details, paired with dark sports shorts and white thigh-highs, creates a very clean overall tone. To shoot photos comfortably while walking heavily across the event, I specifically fine-tuned the thickness and fabric of the white over-the-knee socks, ensuring that after running around the 30,000-square-meter venue all day, they wouldn't produce harsh reflections or feel stuffy. The black-and-white visual contrast is crystal clear, and combined with black twintail hair ties, the overall look remains crisp and neat while retaining a lively charm. The photo I shot earlier sitting at a school desk simulates Aemeath's seemingly lazy yet fiercely cool demeanor in a campus setting.
Now, let's talk about the highlights of the Black Dragonfly Anime Convention itself. The guest lineup this time is truly exciting. Seeing the list of twelve guests—COKE, Mianang, YASAL, Zhiyu, Xiaoyueyue, Wususu, Huainan Shi'ba, Biao Sang, Suyi, LIV, Baozhaoxiaokele, and Annan Younan—makes cosplaying at this event feel immensely worthwhile. As someone who frequently follows domestic ACG offline events, meeting so many creators I admire at the Guangzhou Pazhou Inspiration & Innovation Exhibition Hall makes the trip completely worth it. Plus, the organizers providing ten hours of continuous air conditioning is definitely a summer-exclusive cool oasis given Guangzhou's early August weather.
In terms of venue layout and play experience, the event's activity zones are remarkably sincere. From the promotional posters, there are dedicated zones for Genshin Impact, Naruto, a mysterious Honor of Kings ritual, an Azur Lane maid cafe, and even a Tomb Raider / Daomu Biji themed area, covering most currently popular IPs. With over 40 scene setups, dedicated studio linkage areas, and VTuber collabs, cosplayers who love taking photos everywhere will find an overwhelmingly rich array of check-in spots. The venue also features a dedicated food and snack street, an Itasha car display zone, and a claw machine area with generous prizes. This comprehensive layout guarantees that exploring the convention won't feel boring for a second.
The free pass application process actually opened on July 24. To pass the review, I shot around 9 photos to form a set, posting them across Douyin, Xiaohongshu, and QQ Space set to public as required. I also clicked "I want to go" on Bilibili and commented with my cosplay handle (cn) and character name to complete the procedures. The organizers provided clear guidelines for text and images—requiring 6–9 high-quality cosplay photos along with engagement metrics on each platform—which feels like a fair and reasonable threshold for passionate fans who genuinely love the convention.
Having attended numerous Guangzhou Anime Conventions and domestic events as a cosplayer, I feel that the anime/game expo format of Black Dragonfly combines the content density of large conventions with the welcoming atmosphere of doujin events. During my two days there, I'll likely prioritize checking out the dedicated zones for Sangokushi Kill and VALORANT, as interacting with fellow enthusiasts in a massive offline setting feels far more authentic than pure online communication. The stage performances at the venue are also rich and varied; if time allows, I'll definitely catch the cosplay runway show at the stage area.
Finally, a quick practical note on this White thigh-highs outfit. In outdoor temperatures exceeding 30°C, combining white over-the-knee socks with shorts is actually a very smart choice; compared to fully enclosed long pants or long skirts, this combination offers high comfort when moving into air-conditioned areas. Standing on wooden background boards for photos also gives the image a clean visual texture. Moreover, the overall look aligns closely with Aemeath's original design, ensuring high recognition when shooting on-site at the Guangzhou Anime Convention or posing with fans.
Looking forward to spending these three days from August 7 to 9 at the Guangzhou Pazhou Inspiration & Innovation Exhibition Hall, immersing myself in this summer-exclusive cool party alongside everyone who shares a passion for ACG culture. I hope every attendee finds their favorite characters and scenes here, taking home wonderful memories and photos.
