Shooting this set of Rei Ayanami cosplay, the primary workload fell onto the preparation stage. The white combat uniform is made of latex (Latex bodysuit), with its most defining characteristic being its intense reflectivity. While this material truly fits the character setting, putting it on and taking it off was remarkably exhausting. Because it is extremely form-fitting, I had to carefully regulate my breathing during the shoot to prevent unsightly creases on the surface, while constantly maintaining sharp shoulder and neck lines. The physical red spear prop was very heavy; holding postures required repeated adjustments to ensure it didn't disrupt my center of gravity in the foreground while looking menacing.

The shooting location was selected at a place with metal stairs. The photographer cast highly saturated red lighting onto the background wall, forming a warm-and-cool contrast with the staircase's cool bluish-green tone. This contrast accentuated the character's cool and aloof demeanor beautifully. Regarding composition, both close-ups and wide angles utilized lens perspective distortion to elongate body proportions. Since the character's expression is inherently restrained, exaggerated expressions were avoided; instead, the gaze conveyed tranquility and detachment. The red pupils paired with the red spear created a sharp visual focal point against the dark-toned background.

Controlling depth of field was also critical throughout the shoot, using the red iron stairs and background bokeh to enrich the scene's visual layers. Facing the lens required maintaining a steady, impassive state—yet holding that poised posture required immense physical effort across the body, making the entire Roleplay shoot quite tiring. To bring out the distinct texture of this material, post-processing mainly focused on highlight adjustments, preserving the natural reflections of the Latex bodysuit as much as possible so it appeared more three-dimensional under varied lighting while intensifying the transitions between red and blue light. This outfit sets high standards for body proportions, so poses were thoughtfully designed, leveraging the staircase's incline to enhance overall dynamism. For me, portraying this character in Anime-style photography was a challenging experience; keeping inner calm in such a physically tense state is completely different from everyday shoots. The garment's glossy sheen and the prop's weighted presence were key to the visual expression of this photo set. Regarding advice for wearing this combat suit, beyond carefully adjusting edge fit, one must also account for poor heat dissipation—though all these preparations were worthwhile to present the best state on camera.
