[Marisa cosplay] Looking Back at Old Photos: Light Makeup Witch Cosplay Feels Even More Authentic

Stumbling upon convention photo delivery shots of my Marisa cosplay from years ago brought a wave of nostalgia. My makeup skills back then were certainly unpolished—eyeshadow blending was rough and the base wasn't nearly as flawless as today. Yet looking at them now, that subtle Light makeup cosplay aesthetic holds a distinct charm. Back then, bringing this Magical Girl and Witch cosplay to life meant pouring heart and soul into every accessory. The standout piece was the wide-brimmed black pointed witch hat bordered by thick white scalloped lace trims and crowned with an oversized purple satin bow. The top featured a white puff-sleeve blouse layered beneath a tailored black vest accented with gold star buttons and a purple neck ribbon. For the bottom, a tiered black ruffled skirt with white petticoat ruffles was draped by a white apron decorated with gold star prints, purple bows, and delicate cat embroidery. The broom prop was assembled by hand using a wooden staff wrapped in fluffy white trims and finished with a black ribbon, giving it realistic heft on camera.

Navigating an anime convention floor in that look was no easy feat: the broad hat brim frequently obstructed sightlines in crowded alleys, and the long broom required constant repositioning to capture dynamic casting gestures. Because I hadn't mastered heavy contouring or theatrical sculpting back then, my natural soft facial contours were preserved. Paired with light-blonde wavy hair and blunt bangs, it rendered a sweet, candid presence. While seasoned skills allow for more intricate looks now, that effortless, lively glow under harsh natural sunlight is rare to recreate. Because Marisa's personality is inherently breezy and boyish, a fresh, lightweight face with peachy blush and glossy neutral lips kept her spirited nature intact, proving that genuine passion shines through regardless of technical complexity.
