Taking advantage of the great outdoor lighting today, I wrapped up this long-prepared official shoot for Director Nian from Arknights. From the moment I chose this concept, I contemplated how to harmonize her identity as a director with the character's inherent traits. Instead of her traditional ancient attire, I experimented with a modern Suit Year derivative look: a black suit jacket paired with a vibrant purplish-red satin shirt, tied with a knot at the hem over a red belt to visually elongate overall proportions. A black tie echoed the jacket, while round-lens purple sunglasses became the crowning touch—propped on the crown of my head when not worn, capturing both directorial nonchalance and her flamboyant presence. Red gloves added visual impact during gestures.
The crimson horns overhead were the core highlight of the styling. To recreate Director Nian's draconic features, custom bright-red resin horns were anchored securely onto the long white wig. Sidelocks were braided so that turning my head before the lens added richer layers, while red elf ears enhanced dimensional depth from profile angles. Seeking a distinct mood, the eye makeup featured purplish-red blending winged at the outer corners, paired with pink lips to project an alluring yet commanding aura.
The custom staff badge was printed with 'GENERAL DIRECTOR' and the character's name; dangling from a metallic chain, it swayed naturally with strides for added authenticity. In Photo 2, holding the clapperboard cosplay prop with specialized English text and tables prevented the composition from feeling empty, making it look as though she were about to call 'Action!' The suit had a slightly oversized cut to avoid stiffness during dynamic poses, contrasting with the supple drape of the inner shirt. In Photo 1, folding the shirt up slightly emphasized the waistline alongside the red belt buckle, anchoring visual focus. Because the jacket was kept wide open, holding a tall, poised posture without slouching tested physical endurance. To embody Director Nian's calm confidence, I practiced subtle expressions—lifting my chin slightly and gazing just past the lens as if scrutinizing a director's monitor.
Throughout the shoot, photographer Shui Mo Wu Yue captured candid moments brilliantly. In Photo 1, leaning forward slightly while touching my sunglasses with one hand and holding a black folder under the other conveyed workplace sharpness with a hint of dangerous allure. In Photo 2, holding the clapperboard with a confident smile toward the camera showcased her commanding presence on set. Posing with the clapperboard took several attempts: since its black surface mirrored the suit and tie, repositioning my hand let the red glove introduce a pop of color, breaking the dark palette's monotony. Setting the makeup took significant time for outdoor movement, and the long wig paired with custom horns added head weight that required controlled movement to preserve hair neatness.
Portraying Director Nian under this Ambience Synesthesia ambiance was completed smoothly. Beyond her core personality, the goal was to convey authentic professionalism reminiscent of a film set. The modern tailoring enabled crisp movements while retaining dragon features that make the character instantly recognizable. Special thanks to photographer Shui Mo Wu Yue for capturing every nuance, deepening my understanding of this persona. I hope this look brings fellow fans a fresh visual experience.
