[Remilia Cosplay] Dark Night Queen of Touhou Project, Red and White Gothic-Style Dress

Once again attempting to recreate the Scarlet Devil's signature style, the set design at the photo studio gave me a lot of new creative inspiration today. This set turned out to be rich in atmospheric depth, and I'd love to share some behind-the-scenes thoughts and details with everyone.

For the outfit, I chose my beloved red-and-white Gothic-style dress. The skirt features richly layered lace trim and wine-red satin ribbon accents, while the collar and shoulders are framed with iconic ruffles and bows. The fabric craftsmanship is excellent; the combination of white sheer fabric and red lining gives the skirt a light, multi-layered feel under the lights without appearing heavy. For hair and makeup, light blue short hair with straight bangs paired with deep red contact lenses serves as one of the key elements in capturing her core persona. The visual contrast between vivid scarlet and icy blue is remarkably eye-catching on camera.

For props, I naturally brought along her iconic red trident. This trident not only helps execute stretched, expressive body poses, but also acts as a wonderful visual extension in composition. Additionally, the small black demon wings on my back represent an essential touch—adding a fantasy layer of mystery when turning or sitting sideways without obscuring back contours. I experimented with various standing and seated poses, ensuring active interaction between my posture and the prop rather than just holding it stiffly in hand.

The set design at @No.81 Studio during this studio shooting really delivered stunning visuals. The backdrop features a massive vintage arched window with geometric frame lines, inherently applying a classical manor or fantasy castle filter. The studio was decorated with deep red velvet drapes, red floral arrangements, intricate antique crystal chandeliers, and white iron birdcages. These rich prop elements infused strong narrative depth into the scene, saving significant post-production compositing effort.

Regarding lighting control in cosplay photography, photographer @PhotographerQingfeng possesses a deep understanding of this aesthetic. He skillfully deployed warm and cool contrast lighting: cool blue overhead light streamed down to emulate the quiet chill of night inside a vampire castle, while warm fill light illuminated my face and red drapes. This blue-and-red interlaced setup preserved facial dimension while bestowing the overall photo with a retro, elegant allure. In particular, shifting between low-angle and high-angle perspectives enriched the visual experience, delivering both cute compact framing from above and imposing authority from below.

As a longtime creative partner who brings out the best in every photoshoot, I felt quite relaxed in front of the lens this time. I opted for slightly languid seated postures and sideways backward glances, aligning my overall demeanor with the character's relaxed yet commanding aura. Sheer tulle at the skirt hem fluttered gently with my movements, and its velvety texture was caught beautifully by the camera.

I am personally very pleased with the overall completion of this Touhou Project piece. Whether in outfit details, prop coordination, or the photographer's composition and lighting, the character's unique aura was extended wonderfully. I hope this final work successfully conveys that mysterious, gorgeous, and elegant atmosphere we aimed to create.
