This set of Nico cosplay photos from Zenless Zone Zero was actually conceived well before shooting, especially when considering her character traits from the original lore—easygoing yet cunning. The cut of the shorts and the belt buckles around the waist were tweaked multiple times to accentuate the waistline and thigh contours without looking bulky or cluttered on camera. The black leather jacket over a white cropped top, combined with the layered neckline, creates a contrasting black-and-white palette that fits her capable and energetic anime-style fashion design.
Many people asked why I chose the pose in Photo 2 with my left foot resting on a black suitcase. It not only elongates the lower-body proportions visually, but more importantly, it conveys a relaxed, uninhibited vibe. Because the garter stockings and metal buckle details are extensive, we specifically checked every metal piece before the shoot to ensure they wouldn't hook onto each other when lifting my leg, keeping the movement looking completely natural. The long pink curly hair topped with a black bow adds a touch of playfulness to the otherwise sleek, cool techwear vibe.
To capture that balance between combat-ready focus and casual nonchalance, the eye makeup was focused on enlarging the eye shape, paired with light-colored contact lenses to give the gaze a confident, sharp focus. The platform boots provide great support, so standing on one foot with the other on the suitcase for a prolonged time on hard convention floors didn't cause the posture to falter. The composition intentionally avoided the crowded convention background, utilizing the overhead steel truss structures of the venue as the backdrop; the expansive vertical space gives the subject a stronger presence. A cool-toned hard light setup was used to reflect the rich texture of the black leather, creating far more depth than soft lighting could.
When cosplaying characters with lots of leather and metal accessories, the biggest worries are scuffs or parts coming loose while putting things on or walking around. Everything from the choice of suitcase to the half-gloves was carefully matched to the original black-and-white aesthetic. From the platform shoes at the base to the hair accessory at the top, the visual center of gravity is guided upward by the leg-lifting action, while naturally adjusting the belt with both hands accentuates the waist ratio and leg extension. Many details, such as the cut-out stocking sleeves around the knees and the leather thigh straps, imposed some physical constraints during posing, but it is precisely these constraints that bring an authentic tension to the final photos.
During this convention photography session, the venue was quite crowded and noisy, but once fully immersed in the interaction with the camera and the character, the surrounding distractions vanished. The photographer was extremely patient, capturing three different standing states: Photo 1 captures the candid moment of adjusting the shorts, Photo 2 is the intentional suitcase-step pose, and Photo 3 conveys a relaxed arms-crossed mood. The final images you see were lightly retouched in post-processing, mainly to unify the overall cool color atmosphere and deepen shadows around the frame's edges without excessively warping body proportions, letting the garment's tailoring and physical posing shape the silhouette. After all, the joy of cosplay lies in becoming someone else entirely—especially the moment you adjust your collar, stand before the lens, and feel all that meticulous preparation pay off.
