[Nero Cosplay] Red and White Racer in Fate: Convention photos from Guangzhou Anime Convention

This classic version of Nero's racing suit is a look I've loved since getting into the Fate series. Paired with the classic "Fate/EXTELLA" lettering, it carries a sense of history across time. Coinciding with Guangzhou Anime Convention this time, I decided to bring this classic race queen outfit to the venue for an on-site photoshoot in Racing suit cosplay.

Let's talk about costume details first. This red, white, and black Racing suit cosplay design is exceptionally sharp. The inverted triangle cutout on the chest combined with the thick black line down the center visually elongates the silhouette. The bright red patent leather cropped jacket on top is eye-catching, and the black-and-white checkered pattern on the sleeves is one of the soul elements of this racing suit. Holding the matching red-and-white checkered big flag, the racing atmosphere instantly reaches max level. The over-the-knee boots design fits the character's style perfectly—one shiny black and one shiny red. The "Fate/EXTELLA" on the red boot serves as the visual anchor of the lower outfit, not only drawing eyes but also grounding the center of gravity for the whole look. This high-cut bodysuit style places high demands on body proportions, but at the same time, it beautifully extends leg lines.

The shooting location was selected next to the glass railing on the second floor of the expo center. Natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows was very clear and bright. On-site white light sources at the convention mixed with outdoor daylight, creating soft diffuse reflections that were extremely forgiving to patent leather materials, allowing rich textures without needing strong external flashes. With people coming and going at Guangzhou Anime Convention, I specifically picked a period in the afternoon when crowds thinned out, raising this huge red-and-white checkered flag as a backdrop. It both isolated the messy booth environment behind me and created a strong resonance with elements on the costume.

Wearing this outfit actually tests physical endurance. Although it looks lightweight, patent leather isn't very breathable, and standing firm with high-heeled over-the-knee boots while holding up a heavy flag requires constant effort. The photographer was also adept at catching details, capturing many great dynamic frames as the flag waved. Interacting with fellow ACG photographers on site was fun as well; everyone had a high recognition for classic retro versions of characters, and seeing this racing suit, some could instantly call out the character's name. That is probably the charm of offline conventions—bringing 2D characters into 3D reality, freezing that moment of focus and enjoyment through photography for these Convention photos.

In post-processing, I didn't do overly complex structural adjustments, focusing on preserving the original luster of patent leather and the sharpness of the checkered patterns. The glass railings and modern architecture background served as a picture frame, giving the race queen image a touch of sleek urban athleticism. Convention photos are not merely recording an outfit, but conveying that confident and bold spirit from the character's soul through the lens. Every time I shoot a classic retro look I love, it brings back memories of that initial touch when first discovering the work; being able to re-interpret it now as a cosplayer feels truly wonderful.
